Aaaagh! I am away from home until Sunday and I am drawing a blank when I try to think of what fabrics I have in my stash.

Pre-washing - Great reminder (better check mine again  )

Batiks - They had better be allowed, I've got some in my batch. Not only that but I had a load that I had cut into 2 1/2" squares for my 'Batty.' quilt and then didn't use, so I sewed them back together and re-cut to size

Starch - Starch is gooood! Love the stuff for piecing! (chocolate is also good, are the pink bits raspberrys or some of Dawn's watch-a-ma-call-them berries?)

Numbering system - I am running 2 groups of 41's, 'a's' and 'b's'. I made up my spread sheet going 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b,.......41a, 41b. This does not mean that you will be swapping with all a's or all b's. Heck I don't even guarantee that you will receive one of your own patches back

Okay, I will join in!! I will do TURQUOISE!
I will prewash and starch after, then cut and piece.

Rosemary, do you mean that if we want border spools also, we need two numbers -- which means we need to make 82 to swap. (41 for the center and 36 for the border, and few extras)

I will send you an email Rosemary. Thanks for setting this up!

Margo,
I'll starch mine after I prewash it. I'll do orange, my son's favorite color.

Rosemary, You told me I was nuimber 5b. What does the "b" mean?

I agree with the request for pre-washed fabrics!

I would also like to ask if it's OK if we STARCH our fabrics?
Working with these loooooong narrow strips will make them so much easier to manage if they are starched before the 1" strips are cut.
If we cut eight pieces of fabric, 5" X WOF strips and starch them, it will make cutting and sewing so much more accurate.

May we? May we?? :?:

yum!

Mine will probably be yellow or green.

A question/comment: Can we agree to WASH the fabric first, and make that a 'pinkie promise"? I got really disapointed with a few from the HST excahnge that were batiks and not washed :(

Also - do you want/allow batiks?

I have some questions dear Rosemary:

Are we to make all 41 of our thread reels the same color family?

Are we to place the name label on the front or back? I wouldn't want it to obscure the pretty fabrics...

If we need more than 41 to make the quilt as you show it, should we also exchange for the 46 narrow reels?
Yes make all of the 41 thread reels from the same colour family, mine will be all in the pinks in the picture, that way when we swap photos of quilts we will be able to say Ahh - Rosemary = paleish pinks, Margo = ?, etc etc... (also it is easier to track down a bunch of fabrics in one colour way and strip piece than to try and make everyone different. We get the difference by swapping!)

The name label can be on the front or the back, it will probably be removed when you come to make up the quilt, so if you are stitching it on use a large stitch which is easy to unpick, if you use stickies, I suspect that it would be better put on the back. I was presuming paper name labels, if you want to make up fabric ones that could also be in the quilt, be my guest. But bear in mind the arrival date for parcels is 29 February

There are only 36 narrow/gutermann reels in the border - I am planning on taking the 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" patches and cutting them down to 2 1/2" x 4 1/2". I am also reducing the size of the spool to only a total finished width of 3"

The spares I am planning on using to make a long thread that tangles & meanders over the whole quilt.

If you want to do the same border as I have shown, then you will need to get your name down for 2 numbers

Just sent an email to Rosemary and have my fingers crossed that I get on the list. This quilt is on the January page of my calendar and I was just thinking yesterday that I would like to make it--this would be even better.
