And, I'll bet while you are getting fabric for your spools, you will find something else that just has to come home with you! Isn't that the way it always is?

The only thing I would do differently, is when making the word document for the labels, I would go 'Format', 'Columns' click & set it to 2 columns, that way you can get all 22 name labels facing the same way up and it only takes one pass of the printer, but that is neither here nor there.

Well DUH! I knew there had to be an easier way to do that!

Margo - that looks perfect!

Don't worry about the spare ziploc bag, I am a fairly expert fabric 'wrangler', but if they are too much of a nusiance, I will swap you 2 small ones for one large, and think that I was getting the better end of the deal

I set my machine to basting stitch length and sewed the 1" end of each label about 1/8" from the edge. This basting is easy to pull out so I was careful pulling it out of the machine. I also trimmed all the thread tails to make it easier for the sorters. I think that is going to be secure enough to withstand sorting, and still be easy to remove by the recipients.

In order to distribute the bulk and keep the stacks stable, I staggered the placement of the paper labels.

Each set of reels fits into a sandwich size zip-lock bag, but it is snug.

Rosemary, would it make things easier on the sorters, if I include a larger zip-lock bag for the return shipment? There is no need for you to have to wrestle everything back into a small bag.

Rosemary, please let me know if this is the way you want to receive the sets, or what you need changed:

I was able to print out my name and location 11 times down one side of an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper, so I copied that list and placed it upside down against the other side of the paper to give me 22 paper labels per sheet with the excess paper on one side of the text. I made 2 sets of reels so I printed out 4 copies.
(Obviously if you have a better plan, by all means do it!)

I cut the papers in half (4-1/4" from edge)

Then stacked them all in the same direction and cut the labels apart. This gives me about 1" of width to attach the labels and enough length to keep the stacks relatively stable.

Thanks Rosemary, I think we get it now. BTW I did want to make the second set. I just didn't know if we needed to wait and give other people the opportunity to join in, before we signed up.

I have most of my strips sewed together. After a few rows I measured and it was alittle off, so the next rows I am making a little narrower seam (I even did Margo's test, put the tape on the machine, etc. I guess with that many seams even a hair's width can make a difference. I made a list of all the colors mentioned so for. To make my second set I am going to go to the LQS and pick out some colors not listed yet, so we have more variety. Maybe lavenders? I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am.

I'm confused too! I have an "a" from the first time I signed up, and a "b" from the second time.
Do I send 2 sets of reels, or should I send 3??

One Set per number, and so far you have 2 numbers = 2 sets

Oh - and go and put some Calamine lotion on your 'redneck' it sounds as if you could be getting sun-stroke!

One list (a) is for the spools in the center, and one list (b) is for the spools on the border. Technically. Of course, you can do whatever you want with them once you get them. I ask because I'm in group 'b' twice. I will send two different colours. I assume everyone who has two numbers will be sending two colours?

I re-arranged the 'a' & 'b' groups last weekend, to make things easier for me, if you were originaly 'b', before last Sat. you were moved to 'a'. THIS WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AT YOUR END!

List (a) will give you enough reels to make the centre of Edyta's Spool Quilt.
List (b) will give you enough reels to make the centre of Edyta's Spool Quilt.
List (a & b) will give you enough reels to make up My Version of Edyta's Spool Quilt, with some spares for borders etc.

I have made all of mine in pinks - crystalised rose petals for the foodies, but no two are the same.

Rosemary, shall those of us who are in both groups, place each set of 41 in a separate ziplock bag inside the main ziplock bag? I think that would be good so you can sort them separately. Of course, they'd be sent back home in one envelope, but it will cost a bit more...
Put each set of 41 labeled strips in a ziploc bag, then place them in an envelope with an address label. They don't need a third ziploc bag.
They will all come home together the same way.

Well, I finally gave in to temptation and joined as No. 34a. I kept telling myself that I already had too much to do with time limits, but what's a few more strips, huh? Not sure of my color yet. Have to go through my stash and may just have to make a run to the LQS. We'll see.
