Re: 'Wot RoTT' exchange 19 Jan 2012 19:39 #74260

Lorna,
Regarding including your name & address in your Forum post, I have found that the Forum
comes under Google searches for all to read. The only block to non-members of TQS is that
they are prevented from seeing photos or making a post themselves.
I think it's wise to Google oneself occasionally to see what's out there.

Many thanks for all your efforts on our behalf. Will get my blocks sent to you as soon as I can!

P.S. as to value...are we going mostly medium to dark or are light color reels OK?

I decided to outside my box, even though it's a comfortable box, and am making my reels lime green sherbert. Something bright in this dreary winter.

Margo reminded me last night/this morning about guidence for fat-quarter gifts.

Personally speaking I like clean, clear colours, I like batiks, & hand-dyes (despite the bleeding & the need for colour catchers). I have a long term handsewing project in mind which involves greens (but some-how I keep geting side-tracked  ). I have plenty of Pinks already in my stash.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does! I have a very large stash of FQ dyed by me. And, many of them are in greens! That makes it easy, I can just ask which one
wants to take a trip across the ocean and grab the one that volunteers!

We all met some wonderful members through those exchanges! I have had many emails to and from Lotti, riverowl, crocus, Rosemary, and on and on! I consider these ladies my friends now! Dozens of them! You can't meet a greater group of ladies! (and guys!)

postage to Canada will be £4.19 including the envelope, which I have already - I just hope we can avoid the postal increases which happen in April for the return journey.
I've also sent you another copy of the posting instructions for you to lose on your computer

hello sue

the BatiksRUS was a Batik Exchange early 2011: forum/friendship-triangle-exchange/4313-batiks-r-us-fabric-exchange
the SOTTTs was the Sisterhood of The Travelling Triangle Exchange: forum/friendship-triangle-exchange/4247-sisterhood-of-the-traveling-triangles-exchange
then there are also the STRIPPERS, which was also the Sensational Strippers Exchange: forum/friendship-triangle-exchange/4307-sensational-strippers-exchange
the names also refer to the persons participating in these exchanges

i met lots of wonderful people here in TQS land through these great exchanges, the WotRoTT exchange is a direct result from those...
some of us can never get enough :)

I'm not Rosemary but can tell you that SoTTTs and Batiks-R-Us are the first two exchanges done by TQS members. You can read about them starting here:

forum/friendship-triangle-exchange/4247-sisterhood-of-the-traveling-triangles-exchange

and here: forum/friendship-triangle-exchange/4313-batiks-r-us-fabric-exchange

The SoTTT exchange (Sisterhood of The Travelling Triangles) wound up with 561 participants from 12 countries exchanging almost a quarter million HSTs!!!

Good for you Barbara! Yes, just trim those babies up to be 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". I took off a bit on each end. Technically, the top and bottom strips should be 3/4" wide so when sewn into the blocks they'll be 1/2" wide just like the center strips are. But it's ok if the individual strips vary a bit... as long as the total size is 3 1/2" x 4 1/2".

Does that help?

Dear fellow Wott’s;

I have 30 reels done & with a new machine & a little practice I have once again surprised myself! I love this forum; it pushes me to try new things and figure them out. Things I wouldn’t ordinarily do on my own! Love you guys. Here are what I have done so far.
P.S. Should I cut the ends off to measure the 3 1/2 “ (I have them cut the 3 1/2 “) by 4 1/2” or leave on little on the end-length wise ?

Thanks

Good evening Wot Rotts,

I'm over the jet lag now and ready to go. I've been to the post office and to usps.com and have discussed with Rosemary (and previous sorters). As Rosemary previously stated we will each be sorting the reels as we receive them. Once they are all here, we will get together and finish the sort. (And exchange FQs--you all are very generous, thank you!) I know she is way ahead of me and has already sent out her mailing instructions. Thanks for your patience with me. Those from the USA may ship to me at USA prices (unless you would rather ship to Rosemary at international rates. )

1. I will provide the return envelope (free from usps.com), I wanted to use the Tyvex envelopes but shipping was a lot more expensive and varied by location. I decided Flat Rate was the way to go. Having the return envelopes ahead of time will allow us to sort as we go. (She is so clever!) These are flat rate envelopes that will ship anywhere for $4.95. I will buy return postage with money you send to me. I experimented last night and can make the return labels and buy postage all on line. This will save time at the post office window. REPEAT-- YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEND A RETURN ENVELOPE

2. When mailing your reels, you will have to complete a customs form at the post office since it is coming overseas. Inside your envelope you please include the following:

- reels in ziploc baggies, each baggy clearly marked with your assigned number and group (a,b,c)
- cash or check for $5.25
- completed customs form (PS Form 2976) that you put inside so I can use for return shipping. (Yes, a second customs form! One on the outside and one on the inside for me to use.)
- return address clearly printed so I can create labels/postage online and print out

Send to:

It is important to know is that mail delivery schedules are different for military mail. No guarantees. If you send your package by parcel post it can take 4 weeks or more to get here. Priority Mail (which is how I will return them) can take 10-28 days. Much, much longer at Christmas or busy times. I will let you know as I receive the packages.

I hope that is clear. Feel free to email me with any questions or ask here.

Lorna

Loving it here in windy, rainy Suffolk

20 January UPDATE:
Hey guess what everyone?! The postage is going up soon. Oops! Looks like the new flat rate price will be $5.25. So if you haven't already mailed yours please include check or cash for the new postage $5.25.

If you have already mailed yours please, please please, DO NOT waste a 42cent stamp to send me 30 cents. Totally not worth it.
