Don't know how much quilting will get done this weekend. It is my oldest daughters "Gotcha Day" tomorrow, at least that is what we call it. 6 years ago tomorrow I flew to Guatemala to pick her up and she officially became a part of our family. How time flies, she is no longer a scared little 5 year old who could not figure out what in the world I was saying to her (she spoke Spanish and I did not). So it is dinner out, cake, presents and lots of celebrating this weekend for us. However I do think it is time for her to learn to sew. Maybe a simple Rail Fence quilt will get started this weekend.

What a great name for her special day!! Have a wonderful celebration!

I went to the Post Office this morning to pick up the Customs declaration forms, picked up # 2976. when I got home, I looked at Margo's picture of her form. Noticed that hers is form # 2976A, which is for packages more than 3/4 inch thick. So people in the US, get form 2976A which looks like Margo's! The other form only works if the package is less than 3/4 inch thick. I'm labeling my reels today, got the removable labels. Mine will be called Creme Brulee, since the yellow is orangey yellow and we seem to be going after dessert names!

Kathy, I just used what my postmaster handed me after I explained what I was doing and he saw my package!

As for color names, Creme Brulee sounds better than squash casserole!!

Kathy,

I spread my 41 reels into 4 groups, added the info needed, 2 fats and money in a gallon sized ziplock. I enclosed everything in a free tyvek envelope just in case the package has a rough trip. Then put it all in a cardboard flat rate envelope.

The forms are confusing and on the USPS website, it's even more confusing. I used customs form 2976. It's for items valued below $400. Form 2976-A is for items over $400. The lady at the USPS said either would fly. She said the USPS main concern is to make sure the forms have sender info, sent to info, declared amount, what's in package and signature filled out.

Our area sends a lot of APO packages. I'm surrounded by 12+ military bases. :D

Teresa B,
What a clever name for such a special day. It sounds like you and your entire family will be having a great day. Sounds like she is a very lucky little girl.

Once reels are mailed.......

Rosemary sent me a reel number, mailing information and included the following:

ALL Wot RoTTers
Please send me an e-mail to let me know that your parcel is in the post, regardless of whom you are sending it too (confirm who you send it to as well, thank-you)

I included my screen name, reel group & number, sent to info, what was included in package and date mailed.

Thanks so much to Lorna and Rosemary for sorting!

For the Recipes & Reels book, I don't mind undertaking to scan all of the reels, with & without labels as TIF scans. Since the are all going to pass through my hands (& I have a spread sheet & I am not afraid to use it  ) it would make sense for me to do them.

I 'm hoping to get my reels in the mail today. This has been so much fun reading everyone's posts and I'm so glad I could be part of it. Thanks for all the great info. I can't wait to get my reels back and see where they all came from. Thanks Rosemary and Lorna for all your work. :D

Edyta's original spool/reel quilt has scrappy spools! I plan to make mine all the same and have starched my fabric and background, but haven't started making the ends yet.

I was thinking about making all my spool ends out of one fabric too. I'm hoping I have enough fabric on hand for them and the background. I still need to make my reels. Yikes! I'll try to get them together this weekend. Also, now I don't know what number I am.   Originally I was 11b, but I remember Rosemary saying she moved some b's to a's, and I just read someone's post saying they were 11a and 11b, so now I'm confused. :? :? :?

Debbie, I don't think it matters what number you are as long as Rosemary has you listed on her spreadsheet. The numbers don't really mean anything except that Rosemary has us all counted so the correct number of people are participating. Relax and have fun sewing!
To start with I said that the numbers were just a way of making sure that I had the right number of people in each group and that was it, however as we expanded to 3 groups, I am finding that they help to make it quicker to find people on the list, so that I can record when parcels have been posted & arrived etc. Also I have people listed by screen name/personal name next, which means that when it just says 'Bren' without any other clues I am hunting around and scratching my head as to which 'Bren'.

The reason I want to know posting dates is so that we know who we are expecting and can keep a bit of a track of them. After my last year's Sottts experience I feel that this is important. (I posted my hst's first week of march, one week later I posted the Sorting hats. About 1 week later the Sorting hats arrived, the hst's didn't arrive until 9 April! :? )

Deb, I'll resend your number now.

Debbie, I'm sure they can look up you number, but for anyone who has not sent in blocks yet, please include your number if you know it!
