TOPIC: SoTTTs Clearing House - Duplicate and Wayward Exchange

Re: SoTTTs Clearing House - Duplicate and Wayward Exchange 01 May 2011 14:41 #63921

I was fortunate to receive many duplicates, etc. because I sent in 616 HST's. I am looking to trade with someone who might have been lucky to receive a duplicate from South Korea. My step-daughter is from Seoul and it would be nice to have one to commemorate her birthplace. If you'd like to trade, please contact me at mailto:sforster395@yahoo.com -or- contact me through my profile. :D Thanks much.

I made some hst's and mailed to Lorchen in the UK. For 20 it cost me 98cents. Just for an idea of cost. I will recount my exchange hst's. I have more than I need for my quilt, so I am willing to share. I have pressed them open, but did not remove the papers yet.

You-re right Kari, the same way we did the original exchange sounds like it would be the best way to go. I'm sure each of us would not mind including a dollar bill to helo out with any added espenses. What do you think ladies???? Really nice of your husband to go along with your plan---especially tellong him AFTER you already volunteered. LOL

I apologize but I am confused how a one-on-one exchange would "probably amount to 44 cents". I myself have 60 + duplicates, if I send them straight to one person that one person will now inherit all the multiples I was hoping to exchange. So now instead of me having 8 duplicates of Rose P. from England my swap buddy now has 8 duplicates of Rose P. If I send off 10 packets to 10 people in order to 'spread the wealth', I am now looking at 4.40 and now 10 people have to send me their swap triangles. Now we are up to 8.80. I do not know if that would be cheaper than sending a larger envelope and return envelop with stamps on it. I was planning to set up a sample package and get some numbers from the post office so that everyone can make a slightly more informed decision.

Once again, thank-you very much for the concern as well as the suggestion - got to run the little guy has woke up from his nap.

The other details would be similar to the first exchange: zip lock baggies, return envelopes postage paid (I'll work with our international sisters to work this out), email letting me know your triangles are on the way, and forgiveness if nothing goes according to plan.

Let me make something clear - I had already said everyone would need to send me a postage paid return envelope and my husband has a paypal account for international orders. My husband and I discussed the financial aspect last night (after I told him I had volunteered) while we discussed the logistics and have both agreed that we are willing to take on the risk. If I need help with finances or more triangles I will not hesitate to send an SOS.

Thank-you very much for the concern and the willingness to help.

Kari, I'm hoping you can hook me up with someone who wants these so that you don't have to deal with postage and I can just mail them directly.

:D :D :D Way to go Margo :!:  Simple and easy.

Hmmm. Where would the postage money come from for a "general exchange" :?: In a one-to-one exchange, both individuals would connect through Kari's spreadsheet info and work out the mailing arrangement between themselves (which would probably amount to 44 cents or whatever amount is needed for the exchange). I personally believe Kari is not responsible for collecting money or paying postage for us.

For example, in our "SoTTT" exchange, I anticipated that there would be some instances at the end where Debbie and Clara could use some extra "moola" for unforeseeable postage situations that might arise in the distribution process...so I contributed (like some other sisters did) money so, hopefully, they would not have to use any of their own financial resources and also not have to go through the extra work of requesting extra postage which would slow down the mailing process. However, until some generous souls want to step up to the plate and contribute money to a "general fund" which Kari would probably be the one to maintain, this could also slow down the process of the exchange and complicate matters.

If there are international exchanges, then both parties should be willing to pay their own postal rates.

We need to keep this as simple as possible for everyone.

I've just thought of something else. The papers! I've already removed all of my papers and pressed open my HSTs. I know that there are some members who are trying to get a complete set of papers who might be interested in what I have so I will be more than willing to send them, if they are OK with just papers, with no fabric.
I would rather send them all than to go through the papers looking for specific ones.

I will also be glad to send some duplicate HSTs (PRESSED OPEN, WITH NO PAPERS) if someone is short, because my project is now almost completely pieced, and I have more than I need.

Kari, I'm hoping you can hook me up with someone who wants these so that you don't have to deal with postage and I can just mail them directly.

Kari, Shirley may be right and I know from experience that you can get caught in something that will cost you lots of money. No one wants that for you. I think that your ideas are just wonderful, but also, getting Sister A with Sister B to make them both happy with an exchange that they handle personally is going to be no small feat. It will be a job - rewarding I have no doubt - because everyone will know who to contact if they need or want something (YOU) and you'll know who needs to be matched with whom. We're all going to do this anyway that is easy for you and we're going to help you in anyway we can! You can count on it.

I haven't received my HST package yet, but I'm willing to make any extras you need and I know Shirley and some other wonderful sisters are too. We're behind you Kari. Don't take our comments to mean that we don't think you know what you're doing!!

Nancy and Shirley, thank-you for the suggestion and your willingness to help. Let me explain my thought process. I have 8 extra triangles from TQS member Liesje from Australia. If I were to send each triangle out to 8 different people in the US - I would be paying 8 * .44 = $3.52. And that is just one set of duplicates. I have almost as many from Posy P in England - that makes my cost close to $7. At that is only the beginning, I haven't touched sending them internationally. If I send all my duplicates to one person it probably won't cost more than $4 for both the sent and return envelope. My goal was to try to share my abundance of international triangles and minimize my cost.

I am willing to act as a mediator for those that would rather mail their own out - maybe you are looking for a specific state, country, person, ect. In order for that to work, people would need to send me a list of what they are willing to exchange and what they are looking for.

Would people prefer a general exchange or a one-on-one exchange? I am willing to do it either way (or both if there is enough of a demand.)

Kari

Kari, this is only my humble suggestion: be very careful about what you offer regarding it just costing a few cents and $ for postage. For whatever it's worth, I'm casting my vote for a "one-on-one" exchange and letting the individual quilters work out the postage and logistics. If others want to exchange larger amounts of HST's, let them form their own little groups to do that, and you just be the mediator to get them together.
