I like what you've done with this! I think Rosemary's idea of moving the lighter/brighter blues closer together is a winner. It would give a wave sensation similar to what you captured in the pink to purple quarter...

But would really appreciate your opinion if I should continue along this idea or should just go totally scrappy? Am I trying too hard? Thank you sisters for your honest opinions. I love how this is looking, especially the east and south quarters. Would it be possible to move the pale/bright blues closer together than they are now? they seem a little scattered in the west and north quarters to me, although this is probably easier to see on the photo than in real life.

the hsts I have marked with a pink cross are the ones I think want to be together somewhere near the northwest diagonal line, but that is just my personal suggestion.

In my opinion Crocus, this way is a winner. I certainly love the scrappy way, but this appeals to me very much.

Ellen, I really like the way your dark triangles make a large X of flying geese! Great lay-out!

Ellen - Love it! What great work. I like the idea of leaving the outer border off as well.

I liked the Medallion Quilt from the moment I saw it. It pulled me into the HST exchanges, and I received squares from both the Batiks r US and the SOTT. Even though my intention was to work on this over the summer, I just couldn't wait. Working with so many different colors was not something I'm used to. I like things orderly. And I think I may make this again with the HST's in specific colors in specific ways. Maybe _that's_ what I'll do this summer.

In any event, I've got this one finished. I did try to place the darkest triangles at the corner, but other than that, just drew the triangles randomly out of a basket. With the exception of the four from Ricky and Alex. Those were placed in the center. One thing about assembling this, because those darkest ones are all the '14th' row, that's where I started sewing. I made each of the four longest rows, then worked my way progressively smaller, sewing each row to the one before it and working all four quadrants at the same time. For me, that seemed to make it go faster. I also declined to make a secondary border around the quilt. I liked it this particular size, and even though I had chosen a material I thought worked, I wanted all the focus to be on the HST's.

I'm finally back to the HSTs! House guests three straight weekends will really slow you down - in a good way!

I had my annual eye exam today and got a side benefit! With my eyes dilated I couldn't read or use the computer. Instead, I hung my table cloth and played with my HSTs. I was surprised that in dim light I was able to focus on the value (as Margo suggested) and ended up with a reasonable layout rather quickly. (I didn't have space for all the top and bottom rows and ran out of reds for the outer two rings but the results are still fun to consider!)
:P

I'd love to see other layouts! (Loved Margo's completed top!)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I took a break for Mother's Day (Hope everyone had a wonderful day). I'll pull out the design wall next weekend and do a full layout.

Wendy - I also would go with your first layout. Having recently rewatched Edyta's show, those brights are what she refers to as the 'jewels' in the quilt that lifts it.

WENDY... I like the first quilt first with the pinks and blues. If you have others like them be sure to get them into the other quadrants of your layout. That helps balance your quilt top. The first photo has more spark then the other ones.....

but that is just my opinion.... It will be gorgeous
