Sherry, I strongly advise pre-washing batiks! I was told they went through so many processes and washes that it wasn't necessary, but they still bleed excess dye into a the water. I hand wash (or let soak for a while in a large bowl or the sink) in hot water and a little soap, just to make be sure I get all of the excess dye out. Then rinse until the water becomes clear, and iron it dry. I first cut my fabric into manageable sizes, like a fat quarter or half yard. Test a small piece of one of your med/dark fabrics in a bowl of hot water. Let it stay there a while. You will see what I'm talking about!

Thanks, Ritzy - that is good for me since I'm living in an RV and would have to take them to a laundromat :-)

I prewash all of my fabrics and have found the batiks to bleed more than most. Even with color catchers, I've had spotting. :x Sherry, how about at least giving them a rinse in your sink? That way you'd see if you have any problematic fabrics. You could always dry them outside :)
I hope I'm not being difficult. It would be a bummer to muck up those creams when we wash our finished project.

Sherry, with all the washing that batiks get in the process of making them; I don't think it is necessary.

I bought fabric to do 4 different types, but if we just do 3, I'll keep the rest for myself.

Are we prewashing the fabrics?

Ritzy, I copied the instructions and emailed them to myself so I wouldn't have to go back to find them. :-)

Lets see - - - How about BATS! Batiks Anonymous Triangulators. We will all be bats once we've done all of these and the ones for the SOT exchange! I figure I'll be doing about 800 total or more HST between the two.
