Judy, that's really funny! Florence, I love that project you describe with those family blocks. Would love to see that one when you start on it.

In my case its, ADD to the stash and UFO pile.

before I reward myself with a new project. I try to at least work on a ufo..but the reward projects are more fun..then they become ufo's...but if I finish this little one I can start a new project...
aaarrrggg!!!
my roswell cupboard of ufo's is quickly becoming a pigs (projects in grocery sacks) sty.
I'm sty-mied.

For years and years, I never had more than one or two projects going at a time. When I finished a quilt top, I gave it to my friend with a longarm to quilt. Then a couple of years ago, I started spending every Wed. at my LQS owned by one of my friends and I must admit I was shocked at how many UFO's (works in progress) my friends had. Now I, too, have more than I want to admit. I keep seeing something else I want to make and away I go! My friends are loving how they have corrupted me. :D

I don't really think I have all that many UFO's, but maybe I could win for having the oldest? Not sure if I can finish anything on it this year, but my hope is to make 3 or 4 quilts maybe for my siblings out of a collection of blocks that my Mom found when cleaning out HER mom's house after her death in 1975, a tied-up bundle of blocks, I've tried dating the fabrics and many date to 1880's but the newest may be early 1900's. Best guess was that they might have been pieced by "Aunt Ida" who was an invalid great-aunt of my grandmother's. They are machine pieced, many Churn-Dash and split 9-patches. It's been a while since I've looked at them I can't remember how many there were, but the bundle is about the size of a 2-liter soda bottle!

Over the New Year's Holiday, I organized all my projects. I was surprised at the final count. I have about 10 that are in various stages of construction and/or quilting. Then there are another 20 projects that are calling to me. I won't start them until I have some of the started ones finished.

The process of pulling out everything I have going and prioritizing it helped. I have sewn binding on 5 projects since the beginning of the year -- just to get them off the list! My goal for the year... To have more finishes than starts.

Edited to add: Judy, those new Bernina's are starting to tug at me too. Good Luck with yours. I hope you are off & running before no time.

UFOs??? there is not such a thing...they dont excist  It is called work in progress  Some projects just take a bit more time to finish thats all, like for so many things in life...Roma was not built in 1 day
I have a lot of work in progress...and some of them wont be done in another 10 years..at least (my ugly pile is big enough  )

If there was a UFO contest, I'd probably win! I've been quilting since 1983, so.....and I bought an Anniversary Bernina with the BSR so I can machine quilt some of the UFOs, but I'm just learning and it's going to be awhile before I dare machine quilt on anything but a plain piece of fabric!!!!! Yes this is my year to get as many done as I can without making it a job. I do have this one right now that's keeping me from doing the BOMs. Tonite I spent reverse sewing taking out my machine quilting. I was telling Margo I'm just going thru frustration because I can't get my machine quilting satisfactory on a give away quilt. This is why I have UFOs frankly cause of the finishing of the sandwich. If I could handquilt everything, I would be OK. But I want to do more. So now I persevere and have decided that this beautiful top may go to its owner with amateurish quilting but it's been delayed too long. Was hoping I was at the final stages 2 weeks ago but of course after tonite I'm starting over. However my large stipple is better so if I can keep the tucks out, this may get done in the next week or so yet.

ufo's fill my Roswell closet 14 Feb 2008 21:38 #13753

I have so many ufo's that even a science fiction movie trilogy could hold them all. Do I feel guilty? once in a while do I keep my resolution to finish at least two things before I start anothern new thing--- good golly Miss Molly - that will be the day. Right now I have three lists of ufo's the need to do's because I want them for gifts etc. and the want to do's because it is a challenge to myself to do them and there are the must do's because someone else is depending on me to finish something by a deadline. (Like members of a quilt group expecting blocks from me because I signed up for the exchange.)

needless to say I don't want to list them all that would make me tired and I need my energy. so I will report when I get one done. Ann in Southern TEXAS[/code]

I am not a good finisher. I have countless crewell, cross stitch, costume, clothing projects unfinished. When I started quilting, I made a rule for myself that I had to finish a project before I started another one. Ricky commented once that some projects just aren't meant to be finished. Well...... did that open the horizons!! I am now working on 4 projects. I think it will take me a while to beat dogquilter though. Gloria loving the permission to put one aside to explore another

UFO completion competition...how many do you have? 14 Feb 2008 16:32 #13737

I don't think that I could even begin to calculate how many UFO, Un Finished Orphan. I looked in one box and counted 10. I know I have over 20. Let's see if we can compete to see who can finish the most UFO's by 2009.

Here is the short list:

My Rhapsody, is semi cut out, completely finished in my head. (priority project)

BOM, Thimbleberries from 2007, top done, not quilted
Gate quilt, laid out, ready to be quilted
2 convergence, ready to be quilted
Seahorse quilt half quilted
Grape vine, with house, half quilted
Dear Jane, 10 blocks, BOM, not expected to finish until Dec 2009
TQS BOM completion date of Dec 2008
Small doll quilt basted
Hand quilted double size quilt in the corner of my bedroom, 3/4 done
Tree of life quilt, morning hand applique project, over 100 pieces left at 5 pieces per day. a pleasure to work on no hurry.
Giraffe quilt for friends birthday in March (Priority)
Small wall hanging for gift, (priority)

This is my short list. I will slowly conquer each project. Do you think I can do it?

Let's see your list......
