Yes, you can free motion quilt using a featherweight but you have to realize that those old motors weren't made for that purpose.
It works like a charm, but you should let your FW rest every once in awhile so the motor doesn't overheat.
And, it works well without worrying about the feed dogs being up instead of down.
I have a feed dog cover but when I do quilt using my FW I prefer not to use it.
It's easier with the feed dogs up.

It can be yours for $2,500 I did just receive an e-bay purchase that I have been wanting a long time and finally found at a (I believe) really good price. A 222 free arm machine, and it is beautiful and makes a great stitch. I can't wait to really sew with it.

I keep reading it over and over. It's good stuff! I'm preparing for a workshop on the 221 for my guild. It will be a fun day, with the history of the machine and hands-on maintenance training.
