You are exactly right, Aileen! These small pieces are perfect for experimenting! If it goes wrong, salvage what you can and maybe make a postcard . . .

I belong to the Quilt A Month Club. I have also purchased 3 quilts. My goal was to make it to 12 quilts. One full year and then set the next goal. With this goal I also wanted to try techniques that I have purchased books for but have not done because I didn't want to commit to an entire quilt if I found I didn't like the process. AAQI Priority gives me the opportunity to get creative in a small scale. I want to expand my skills.
Yes, I have gotten a call from Ami Sims. It is on my voice mail. I keep saving it over and over. It is very inspirational. I was just sorry that I was working and could not answer my personal phone when she called! Maybe next time!

Come and join me in the Quilt a Month Club!!!

Aileen, I agree, nice job on the thread painting and the birdie is too cute!

There is a Quilt A Month club on the AAQI website, that you can join if you'd like some motivation.
http://www.alzquilts.org/qu.html

Kathy Kennedy Dennis posts ideas every month that you can use or not use, and there is the option to buy a quilt instead of make one if you are running short of time to get one made. If you get to 6 months, you get a personal phone chat with a charismatic, imaginative, seriously funny quilt teacher. Guess who?

Aileen -

I think your thread painting is wonderful! I haven't tried it yet, but I can't imagine I could do anything nearly as nice! That is so great that you are putting aside so much time for making these quilts. Very generous!

Aileen, your quilt is sooo cute. I have it in my head to do one a month too but I am not sure if I will be able to keep up. Something to aspire towards though.

Nice. I like it. It would make a great kitchen quilt.

Hi Clara: I just mailed my quilt to AAQI The number assigned to the quilt is 9371. This is the 9th quilt I made this year for AAQI. I try to do at least one a month! My 2 yr old grandson named it Birdie.
I tried thread painting. Never tried this before. Not great but I have to start somewhere! :D

Nancy, that is really hard work, I don't envy you. We had a very bad snowfall here last winter and we couldn't get out of our driveway for several days. The kids were really pleased as it coincided with school days! Take care of your back won't you? We have had the first snowfall on the mountains here yesterday but nothing for us yet. Hope it stays that way. Temperature was -4ºC this morning which is very cold for us. I hope Lance and the cats give you some peace to piece. :D

Hi Clara -

I had planned a wholecloth quilting marathon for this weekend, along with dog sitting for my friend's dogs and watching a Kansas University basketball game and the Super Bowl. But the Colorado weather might have put a little damper on the quilting. We're having a big snow storm here so I'll end up doing a bunch of snow shovelling. I just finished my first shovelling stint and will get whatever new snow we get overnight and also do the rest of the driveway tomorrow. It should only take a couple of hours to finish up, but it leaves me pretty tired so I might end up doing some piecing this weekend rather than working on the wholecloth so I don't screw that up. But we need the snow, so it's good that we're getting some! We've probably gotten a bit over 3 feet at my house so far. They don't expect much more in Denver overnight, but it's hard to say what that means in the mountains where I live.

Rita - I love your letters and your quilting is wonderful! I think letters are a great idea for the Alzheimer's quilts since people could get them as monograms.

Lotti - Sorry to hear about your fall! Take care of yourself over the weekend and hopefully you'll be fit as a fiddle next week!!

Rita, you are going to have a major and exciting weekend. Chinese New Year party sounds interesting. Have fun.

I like the alphabet idea a lot.
