Tracing pattern vs printing pattern

In the instructions for the initial blocks, it says to "trace the pattern from the template sheet onto the dull side of your freezer paper." Are we expected to trace the pattern rather than print the pattern? I'm confused. Thanks!
Wendy’s instructions are to trace. Printing is much faster. Those who only have a laser printer may trace because they can’t put put freezer paper through it.
