"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

HelenW that looks great . I figured we would need 20wof strips dark/light/dark and 10 light/dark/light but please everyone don’t go cutting your fabric according to my figures. I am a risk taker with my fabrics :)

Lynnanne...stay well and enjoy your quilting time. I haven't started March yet. Still three more February applique blocks to complete. Right now I go to work (because I am required to) and then I stay home the rest of the time. So happy to have my quilting hobby and lots of books to read.

Lynanne: bbQuilter explained how to do the 9 patch blocks somewhere in the forum, I remember reading it. So, make 5 small 9-patches (5 coloured 1 1/4" squares and 4 background 1 1/4" squares) with your coloured fabric and background fabric using 1 1/4" strips, and then cut 2.75" squares of your background fabrics for the other 4 squares. Assemble with your tiny 9-patches in the corners and middle.

Linda
ps gee, I had better start my March squares, lol...

Helen, your ideas are great. I too can't wait to get the pattern for the 9 patch blocks. We're on lockdown for the coronavirus here in Italy and I'm running out of things to do!

Ellenceleste, I too was thinking about doing quilt as you go for this quilt. I watched a Marti Michelle video on Bluprint yesterday where she teaches a technique for doing
quarter panels quilt as you go and then a separate technique called enclosed seams for the borders quilt as you go. I am thinking about doing my layout with horizontal lines
of blocks rather than on point because
I like the illusion of the 9 patches looking like they are on point in a horizontal layout. HelenW

This is a sample I drew up in EQ8.

Cindyaziah, I love what you're doing. It really looks amazing with the 9 patch blocks added to it. Once we get the pattern for those, I hope to do quilt-as-you-go on mine and assemble them in just that fashion.

I am just starting block 9. Is the background inner circle Appliquéd on top of P1. I think the P1 will shadow though my white background and I will have to cut away the P1 behind that circle of background fabric.

Freda, that is exactly how it’s done for machine appliqué so it will work for hand appliqué as well.

So I was trying to figure out how to approach block 10 for hand applique and once I coloured in the sections I got it. Outside portion is easy. Inside all pieces will be attached to the larger circle and then I will turn it and attach. I think it will work.
