Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month creative journey with Becky Goldsmith as we bring you "Sizzle," a stunning quilt designed especially for TQS.

Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns. Becky has also created a selection of "how-to" videos to guide you along the way.

Let's use this Topic "Sizzle Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful Sizzle Blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.
The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.
AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

Block 1 done! I’m doing all black background because I’m going to make these as pillow shams to match other quilts

HelenW you mentioned the copy of the line block What exactly are you referring to. I like your idea and want to try it. Also like your colors. Those are two different blocks correct?

Ah Helen... clever idea and thanks for sharing your technique. I see now that it won't use too much fabric to do a preview.

Holly,
The blocks are 8 1/2 inches with seam allowance not the 20 inch as the pattern. I decided on 8 1/2 so I could enlarge the block from the line copy so it would just fit a normal copier
size piece of paper. I make a copy of the line block onto a piece of freezer paper that I run thru the copier. That way I can cut out a block piece and iron it to the
fabric that has fusible on the back of it. Then just lay it down on the foundation outline I made and fuse. On the second one I just cut a square of black fabric 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 and
that fused the whole circle onto it. I have made a lot quilts that I wish I would have made some different colors after I got done. This way I am auditioning
and can still make the changes when I make the full size one. I have learned that blocks like the second one can have a lot of bulk by all the seam allowances that meet in the center. My solution is to appliqué a circle over the seams, and then cut them away from the back. It looks like part of the design and solves the big bump in the middle.

HelenW: what a cool way to plan out your blocks. Are your mock-ups full size? I would not have enough fabric to do both. Your quilt is going to be quite unique and exciting! Can't wait to see more.

Alma, if the 1" was accurate, my guess is you didn't tape the two pages exactly on the lines to create the 10.5" edges of the Block Corner template.

Here is my block 1 mock up from the line drawing plus one more block. I have decided to use the line drawing
to decide on what my colors will look like in the blocks. I am just using raw edge fusible appliqué, and will have
a wall hanging when it is done. I will start making up my actually blocks once I get my colors worked out.
Right now I am having a lot of fun playing around with the colors.

Hi Barbara
This is so helpful - thank you. I printed my block corners and my 1 inch square was accurate, however the pattern is 1/4 inch larger than the 10 1/2 inch piece of fabric I cut per instructions for the corners. Is my pattern off?

Linda, the 1" square is there so you can be certain the patterns printed the correct size. If the square is not 1" the patterns are off. Be sure your printer is set for "Actual Size", not "Fit to Page" or "scale". Since your square is .75", you have a printer issue. Work with your printer until your square measures 1".

I've watched the video and read the instructions....But hearing in class about the 1" square at the bottom of the pattern page ... My block does not print out as a 1" square it is 3/4 of an inch. Hearing others in the class I think this is a problem. I am VERY new at quilting and am terrified that I am going to do something wrong.

Please tell me the significance of the 1" square?

Lost,
Linda
