Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month historic journey recreating the historic Rajah Quilt, sewn by women convicts on board the ship Rajah traveling from England on April 1841 to the penal colony of Van Diemen's Land-now known as Tasmania. The original quilt measured at approximately 128" x 128", but Lessa recreated it in quarter scale with fabrics from her stash. She used many different scraps, imagining that's what might have happened when the original quilt was being made. She followed the colors of the original quilt loosely, and tea dyed fabrics that didn't look old enough. You can obtain the same look with reproduction fabrics, or make a more contemporary-looking version like the one created for TQS.
Here is mine after finishing month 5.I t now measures 35'' square.
I've used mainly reproduction fabrics as I want to keep it as close to the original.
Love what you are all doing, and thank you for answering my question.

Dear Valerie,
not sure if anyone answered you privately, but here is how I add photos-
-use "reply" box under someone's message OR go to top of forum page and click on "reply topic"
-write your message in the text box
-below the message is a box labeled "Add file" - if you have saved your photo to your desktop you will use "add file" to search for the photo to upload to the forum (like adding an attachment to an email). you might be given option to imbed into message or leave as attachment- your choice.
-I suggest you use "Preview" to see if all looks OK, then hit "Submit"
Hopes this helps. Looking forward to seeing more photos of progress.

I haven't sewn month 5 on yet but after month 4 mine measured 30.5 (as in the directions).
There must be typo for month 5 stating that it should again/still be 30.5 when done adding the last month 5 border. I calculate mine will be 34.5"-I'm using foundation piecing method.
the math for month 5- if you sew 15- 2.5 squares together you will get a 30.5" strip. When you sew the corner squares (2.5 each) to that you should end up with 34.5"

Here is my month 5--decided to tackle it first of the month instead of last as I did in April. I'll do a blog post about it tomorrow. bbquiltmaker.blogspot.com
