TOPIC: Thread for the quilt

Re: Thread for the quilt 18 Apr 2014 20:10 #117396

I had given my email wanting the thread and superior has the thread in. called them and it should arrive soon. shipping was under $4 @ I got the discount. So at approximately $4.33 a spool, I feel good about the wait.

Robin13...did you call and ask ? I was able to get a collection...they had a few...the site said out of stock ...
Perhaps those few are gone...but it couldn't hurt to call and ask....

I actually just ordered the large spools for the two or three out of stock threads. Three times the yardage and only double the price.

Should be here Monday.

Sally,
Not Janet here, but am opinionated on the subject  It's easiest to just wind bobbins of your top thread, so you don't have to worry about dots of bobbin color popping up, which it likes to do with blanket stitch, even with lots of tension adjustments. This all depends on how many layers & what kind of stabilizer, how much starch, and so many factors that it's just easiest to have the threads match.

Janet,
When using Magnifico, what thread did you use in the bobbin? I am thinking of getting the thread, but want to make sure I have the bobbin covered too.

Again, thanks for your prompt help. I called Superior thread and was told that most of the colors would be in by the end of the month, but would have to wait until the beginning of next month to ship because one of the colors won't be available until then. I asked if I could pre-pay to get the free shipping. She said that would not be possible but the discount would still stand when purchasing the "kit" they have put together. Also told me that there is a $3.95 shipping option, which is what the free shipping actually covers. Just wanted to let anyone who is waiting for the thread to know the latest information!

Dang, I just got the Superior newsletter that includes the following:

Bob's Birthday Special. We are celebrating from Feb. 20 to Feb. 28 by offering FREE SHIPPING* on retail orders to U.S. addresses and a shipping discount on retail orders to international addresses. Includes thread, fabric, notions.
* minimum order required is only $29 to qualify
* type birthday in the Gift Code box at checkout
* select "Best Rate Shipping"
If you order by phone, you may request this offer.
When your order is processed, you will see a $3.95 shipping discount applied.

Maybe you can talk to customer service & see what they'll do to help if you can't order before the 28th.

Superior Threads $20 Discount Coupon: magnifico
Extended through March 31, 2014 and on any purchase over $75
Just type magnifico in the coupon box when you checkout at SuperiorThreads.com

This eases the pain of the price some! Also, Superior has flat rate shipping that is really reasonable in the USA. If you don't want to purchase, and have a decent thread stash, why not just trust your judgement and do what looks good? I do believe in making samples to try new threads and stitches.

I thought I saw a "kit" with the thread assembled for the applique on the quilt. Was I imagining this or does someone know if it exists?? Seems expensive to purchase all 13 recommended colors for the applique, but also really important to look right! Anyone have any thoughts on this??
