TOPIC: 440QE Question

25 May 2009 06:44 #35539

I have the anniversary edition bernina (435, I think) and it has two cutters, one on the outside as well as one on the inside of the arm. Perhaps you snagged the inside one, its not as noticeable. I didnt see it til first time I snagged some batting on it. :) Sandi in FL

I didn't know there was a second thread cutter on the machines, maybe it's something that was bought and added later? Can you put a photo of it somewhere?

Is it the one that is one the head of the machine, on the side at the rear?

OK--so I was using Kathy's 440QE and gloves to move the quilt. When I pulled my hand back the glove caught and this gray plastic piece went flying thru the air. It is about two inches long and is a second thread cutter. The problem--I had no idea it existed and I don't know where it goes to put it back. Anyone, know where it goes?

So now I'll be drooling over the 630 . . . knowing the feet fit . . . hmmm! I'm still "adjusting" to the BSR and trying to fit a quilt under the arm -- I still have my Janome 6500 and my PQ1500 if I get frustrated ;o] Oh that I could afford an 830 or 820 -- a dream shared by a lot of us I'm sure.

I have a piece of rubber shelf lining under the machine -- as I'm now using the free motion / BSR for a quilt I've slowed down quite bit so that has helped the bouncing

What a wonderful walking foot this machine has!!!

Please share how you start and stop with your BSR's ;o] when doing free motion. I'm doing it the Ricky Tims way as shown in his DVD but not sure if there's another method with the BSR -- the instruction book has me cornfused ;o]

Thanks for your help, ladies . . . and temptation!

Good idea, also can use that rubber holey stuff used for shelf lining to stop things sliding, comes in black or white here in uk. Plus, not only the feet but the bsr and embroidery module from 440 fits the 630 as I kept all mine when I traded up.

I cut a rubber bath mat and placed it under my machine.
When I am not using my table...it stops the machine from sliding.
Also when in the machine bed..it just adds some cushion.

Any accessorie feet you puchased for the 440 will fit the 630 and other models.

The bouncing around makes me think you need additional support under machine. Don't know how to help you with that.

Thank you SO much for helping me out!

It would have been nice if the dealer I purchased the machine from had informed me of that -- I had "toyed" with the idea of going with the 630 . . . but now I have a lot of extra feet I purchased that I believe won't fit the 630 . . .

I'm AMAZED at how the machine BOUNCES around when doing free motion even if I go a bit fast! I have it lowered into a Quilter's Dream table and no way am I going to ever get rid of that table!

NOPE, sorry, only straight stitch on 440, one reason why I traded mine up for 630!

440QE Question 22 May 2009 15:19 #35478

Have had my very first Bernina since the start of April -- Happy 60th to me ;o]

With the 440QE and the BSR can I zig zag free motion?

If so how?

Thanks!
