Geneva yeah that is so stunning. Love the border fabric it's so dynamic. I'll go and tell Terrie to come and look wonderful. :woohoo:

Hey! You guys! Or... you lounge lizards...

Look what I did! Yup, I finished the mystery BOM from Terrie! I hope she is still hanging with us so she can see this.

I entered this quilt into our local guild show which is next week. It's called "Mardi Gras". The colors reminded me of the party atmosphere of Mardi Gras. I quilted it on my new Bernina 770 and it was fun. I used several different color threads. I think it turned out nice.

I'm like you I often don't want to make the bags etc., so just let the leader know beforehand so they're not offended. Bet you're not alone. :)

You better take some vit C so you can go and have fun. What's your new signature going to be.

Our modern guild is having a sew-in on Saturday. I've never been to one where there are specific things planned for the morning and afternoon. The activities are listed as optional and we can bring our own projects. I'd like to fully participate but rarely have time to work on my own things and I don't want to start another UFO. How weird will I be to just do my own thing?

Plus just getting a cold... hope I'm OK to be out and about! :S

Lotto, have you seen these before? I bought one recently and it is great for hand sewing, when worn on the left thumb (for a right handed)

yes, great tip, Wendy.
I purchased the ruler foot a little while ago - and started using it for the last couple of quilts for straight lines and also some curves. but have been using anything i could for the ruler - feel a bit safer with the ruler foot as i'm very often a lot quicker on the go than i should be - this especially when I use flatter items - but if one is normal-careful when quilting the regular free motion foot is perfectly good.
almost finished my IMQE quilt - just binding and sleeve/label to finish off - as this will be done by hand it's planned for doing at the jazz-dinner-night this thursday. am always sewing when there - hey i get a whole three ours to sew by hand - in tact with good music it goes even better - and as I can listen to the music with my ears while keeping hands and eyes free for sewing i get the best of both worlds. the first time i showed up with a quilt or with my hexies they looked a bit funny - but now many people come to find out what i'm working on if i have somethin new - so yes - my IMQE will be sewn in public - but as i'm the only quilter there that should be no problem.

Whoop my top tip of the week to save yourself £££ or $$$. I've been doing ruler quilting using my normal free motion foot, normal ruler, jar lids, different size plates and anything else with a curve and not too high. Who'd have thought it, perfect circles and shapes. :woohoo:

Geneva,
are you aware of this free software? https://www.cosman.nl/software_de.html
you can neatly draw your blocks, make templates and it even calculate the measurements for you.
you may than import the images into word.
I constructed a small instruction last year as a christmas gift in this way and it worked great.

greetings from germany,
Doro

Geneva, I recall that Sue Garmen wrote a post about designing in Word, I saved it onto our lap top, will go and see if I can find it.

Ps it is about the draw function in Word. Found it sitting on the desktop screen, after digging through my downloads files and my sewing files

Say friends.... I would like to write some patterns and wondered if you could suggest an easy program to use to do this. I used to write patterns with a word program and then draw the diagrams on the originals. That was back in the day when we didn't send patterns over the internet. I'm dating myself!

I don't want to buy an expensive program and have to learn it. Is there a way to do this with Microsoft word or excel? Are there tutorials out there?

Thanks, geneva

Thanks for the eye candy Marilyn! They are pretty!

Say, I wanted to share a new book I found that I thought some of you might like. It's called "The Sewing Machine" by Natalie Fergie. I've just started it but I really like it. It takes place in Scotland and is about a sewing machine and it's life. I'm at the beginning at the sewing machine factory. It's about the lives of the people that own the sewing machine. I got it for my kindle on Amazon for 99 cents.

I'm working away on quilting Mardi Gras. That's what I've named the BOM we did with Terrie a few years back. I'm almost done! Yay!

Our winter this year has been really nice. It's been cold, but face it, it is winter. But no snow! Yay! Not like last year at all. Thank goodness.

Have a lovely weekend... geneva
