I imagine it would be easy to add a layer of batting on top of the flannel and then quilt down the squares on top. I wouldn't need the precuts, could just cut up yardage I have in those dimensions. I like that it is a quilt-as-you-go pattern, too. Thanks for sharing! Kathy
