Annis, Thank you, how clever, it looks good like that but I also want to do narrow borders and don't think I will have enough fabric any excuse to go shopping.

Hi Terrie,
I have accepted you as a friend, thank you. It went through straight away, I always double click on approve and never have a problem.
To all of you who responded to my query about sashing fabric thank you, I will have to see if I have enough fabric. I think I have enough of the non stripe however I will audition both . I think I will also visit my local quilt shop it's a chore but needs must.

Another option would be to fussy cut the stripe with the white against the blocks. Not knowing what the scale is, it would look something like this.

I would use a more solid fabric, maybe a light gray, and use those busy prints on the back of the quilt. The stripe might make a nice binding used horizontally. Whatever you decide, it will look great!

Yes, audition of course, but I agree with Ritzy. NOT the stripes.

Very lovely houses. All has been said - to audition is the best thing to make sure you have the desired result. I'm not sure of the proportions of the motifs of your fabrics compared to the houses. I think they should remain "center stage".

Hmm...I am the black sheep--I think the other fabric would look good. There is a lot of black in the background fabric and I think that when you use the striped fabric it might be lost.; especially if it is run with the stripes horizontally. Vertically or on the diagonal might work. Just my opinion because, after all, it is your quilt.

Anne, I love your houses! When you audition your striped sashing, be sure to try it in both directions. :)

Thank you all for your advice...I will do as you say and lay the blocks on the fabric....take photo's and decide then.
Rita I plan to join the rows just as they are then just put sashing across the rows.
If I have enough fabric I will also use it for the top and sides, I may have to buy more fabric......how dreadful that would be

Anne, your houses are great. I think I would go for the stripes.

Anne, there's nothing I can add to the advice because it's what I would have said, too. I LOVE your Christmas houses! :)
