La Passacaglia, EPP, and Grand Illusion 02 Dec 2014 16:12 #124218

the more people visiting the better, in the new Grand Island group.
I was actually rather shocked at how few posts the forum actually gets over all.

Ok, I'm going to go start the english paper piecing thread for us uns that do it ;)

I just joined the group. Still not sure if I will make it. It sure is tempting! Janet

I'm going to gatecrash your groups, I just can't stand feeling I am missing something. I'll be there to encourage rather than to make one :)

I would have never found that in a million years, I thought it would show as a new thread in the forum.
Here is the link to the group
thequiltshow.com/community/groups/viewgroup/100004-grand-illusion-quilters
and I guess you click on discussions to find the threads
I'll go make a comment. Oh, I guess we have to join first? and be approved?

Thanks for the warning! I'm pretty much going by the diagram for the one I'm doing now, called La Passion. Seeing your photos would be great!

We decided to do a group instead of a thread so that we can keep the pictures in a group album. Go to Connect->TQS Community and look at the groups on the right hand side. You will see the Grand Illusion logo. Click on that and you will be on the group page where you can join the group. It is open to everyone.

I don't think a thread has been started for Grand Illusion, I believe this has been it, so Nancy its your idea, you start the thread, hehe. I just saw Kevin the Quilter's red, white and blue Grand Illusion and its pretty and now thinking I may do it with those colors.

Marge, I have 6 or 7 rosettes finished now, and am just as excited to get going on La Passacaglia this morning as the day I started it ;) There are 10 million of those stars that separate the various rosettes from each other so I do a day of just making stars at least once a week...
The book can be tricky to find. The directions are in French and English, but I think a beginner might have a hard time with the patterns. Mostly what you go by are the graphics. They show you what components make up the individual rosettes and how many those rosettes you will need.

I can't find the Grand Illusion thread, can someone post a link here? thanks Sharyn

Edited to add: I just reread this thread and see I've not posted any photos at all of La Pas so I will start a thread for everyones english paper piecing projects. And put some images in :)

edited again!!! I'm having trouble understanding where to actually begin a new thread for epp, help!

Sharyn, I just found this post and am fascinated by the La Passacaglia quilt. Have you posted pictures that I haven't found? That book may just have to come into my sewing room!

I found a woman in Germany, blog post Grit's Life, who did an amazing hexagon project that somehow is worked on a circle. Amazingly, the pattern is on her site for free! I've started it and in about 2 months have gotten a good bit done.
Thanks for the information about another exciting prospect.

I'm also doing the Grand Illusion, but only quarter size. My hexagons are keeping me busy enough for now!

Geneva, I'm not using all baiks. I have a wide mixture of all types of fabric. A lot of mine is coming straight from my stash, but I did buy some on sale, too. There are batiks among the other fabrics. I was thinking mostly of color when I made my choices.

Ok, I'm in!

I do covet Sheryn's sewing space. (I think I spelled her name wrong! sorry!)

Carole are you using all batiks? I was thinking of doing that.

I know this will take me much longer than the planned time, but it will be fun.

Thanks Nancy for making a group for us.

Let's have some fun!
