Hi Wendy,
I also had this problem on my Janome 6600 and found that if I put an empty spool on the spool holder and then put my reel of thread on top of that then run the thread through the little thread guide on the top of the machine not the one that brings the thread up and over from the spool it brings the thread of sideways. This is good for stacked threads and flat threads that mustn't twist as they come off. Hope this is understandable. What machine do you have?
I posted about this some time ago.
Hope this helps
Happy quilting
Anne

Wendy, don't know whether this will work for you but may be worth a try: put your reel in a coffee mug and run it through the telescoping guide, then continue threading as usual. This might give a little more distance for the thread to unwind and allow it to relax a bit more before reaching the wickets the thread has to go through to be threaded. I sometimes do that with metallic threads since they routinely have a bit more torque. Let me know if it helps! :D
PS not that I know a lot about sewing machines...

Hi, a thready question for you. My machine shows upper thread broken when its not (again  ). What's happening is there is a twist in the thread and it bounces and catches on a guide near the up and down arm.

Now I know you wise people have said that with straight loaded thread you use reel holder in one direction and with spiral threaded reels you use upright or the other way round. My machine just has upright pegs so please can you tell me the solution. Thank you. :D
