Beautiful, Terry! It all came together and I hope you're loving it; I'm loving it for sure! At what stage did you start thinking about the quilting or is this going to be the next step? Congratulations!

Jan, What an awesome wall quilt you made! I too had such a challenge with the bias tape that I ended up using Clover fusible bias tape that comes on a roll. If your LQS doesn't carry it. I found this link google:http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=clover+fusible+bias+tape&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=12549771930&hvpos=1t2&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=36455758972852397&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_2hh19ftfww_b

Thank you Renata. I am going to try to applique them with an invisible machine applique stitch. I hope that works as a hand applique will take a long, long time. I have a practice piece that I can test soon. :)

Wow, Jan! Amazing design and colors. The only thing I know how to do with bias strips is sew them as applique' or use them as binding. I may not be much help here. Look forward to the next picture of this beauty.

I'm getting close to done adding the batiks with fusible. Then I need to make a lot of very thin black bias strips. I also need to sew black lines to show the feathers and details before adding the bias. I was using Suzanne Marshall's method of making bias. It is great but some of my bias is slightly bigger than 1/4" and it would be nice if I could do 1/8" for the stained glass effect. The drawing has areas where it's 1/4" and areas where it's smaller. Since I made the pattern from the drawing, tracing it on a light box, I need to try to vary it. The easiest part was fusing of course. This method I'm using is from a class by Esterita Austin who shows it on an early episode here. I used the transdoodle chalk paper to trace the pattern on black cloth so I'd know where to fuse the pieces.
Right now I'm taking a break to do a quilt for my son. Any advice on the bias strips would be a help. Thanks, Jan

Jan, I love your diorama! I'm sure your aunt will enjoy it.

Jan, I look forward to seeing the progress on the quilt for your daughter. Are you going to let your daughter peek at it while you're making it or will it be a surprise? She might enjoy providing an input on the fabrics... you never know... then, she'll be a part of the process and it will something to remember being part of with her own mom. Just a thought... In the meantime, the diorama is beautifully designed and the colors are peaceful and calm.

Hi, Renata, I will get started soon. It just has seemed to be too hard to do. Maybe I'll start today. I made a diorama for my aunt which I'll try to show here. I used favorite fabrics from my stash and fused them down to the picture frame backing. I put this scripture on it "Whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, it there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. Phil 4:8" Thanks for the suggestion. I think the Lord meant for you to spur me on. Jan

I don't know enough to make suggestions, Jan, but I just wanted to express what a lovely idea it is to do this for your daughter. The fact that she is amazed that she did so well when she made it suggests that she will more than appreciate what you will do for her. I remember when you posted about your son's not quite appreciating turning his picture into a quilt, but I think this time it will be different. :)

Oh I love that drawing and batiks would look great. I think the drawing might look great as a stained glass quilt. If you can't find the batiks locally, you might try Hancock's of Paducah online. They have fabulous batiks and a wide range of colors. Just a thought. Look forward to seeing how you end up doing this.
