Welcome Katie! You might want to start by getting Alex's book "Start Quilting" for beginners through the TQS Shoppe. Here's the link.

Look through the TQS Gallery for lots of inspiration and ideas for what your next project should be! Have fun!

Margo, have you been following the blog for the CWBQ? Where did you get the pattern-from Australia? Are you doing it by hand?

Okay, that's enough questions for now

Eileen, I ordered my BOM kits from Common Threads. They will come in the mail with pattern and fabric. I'll definitely be doing this as a needleturn project, but looking at all the blocks on the blogspot, I know I'll be making changes!!

I would like to make a gift for a friends wedding. I was thinking of something just big enough to enjoy on the couch. I really like the square dance quilt and the nine-patch in the start quilting book. I do not want it to be too complicated because I don't want to get too frustrated since I'm still learning :)

Katie, it sounds like you have a good plan! Use Alex's directions, and let the friend direct you with favorite colors. I usually ask for 2-3 favorite color choices, but don't let the recipient have much more input than that or I feel really cramped trying to create their vision. The vision needs to be yours, and you will share your love with your gift! Have fun!

Alex, this is called the Civil War Bride'quilt. If you google it you will see that there are several on-line groups working on it,

http://thecivilwarbridequilt.blogspot.com/

and it is available from several sources. The pattern was designed by Corliss Searcey of Threadbear in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia and is her interpretation of
THE BIRD OF PARADISE QUILT TOP c.1856-1863 in the American Folk Art Museum in NYC.

I'm going to be doing it as a BOM, but like everything else I've ever done....it will definitely have a Margo twist!

OK, Katie. For your next quilt, you need to decide what you want to accomplish. Do you want to learn new skills? Do you want to make a gift for someone in particular? Do you want to make a wall quilt? A king sized bed quilt? If you give us some guidelines, we can guide you toward your next project.

This is what is next on my list, but this may not be for you!

What Next?!? 19 Jun 2010 19:18 #46695

I am a new quilter but I love it! I have made a t-shirt quilt and a simple rail fence quilt. I am ready to start my next quilt. I am still learning and don't want to get too frustrated. Any suggestions for what to tackle next??
Thanks
Katie
