I have made these three blocks. My first came out a bit smaller than 6-1/2 inches unfinished using the mat. I decided on my second block to use my 1/4 inch that I had perfected. Came out closer to the desired size. The third block that I made tonight came out really well. Had so much fun and was relaxed. It will take me some practice to use the mat although I did move it on my machine so it would be more "true" to my 1/4 inch. I think it will be fabulous as I use it more. I love the tips that Alex gave us on Basket G: her pinning of seams and being able to peek under; taking the needle out at the last minute in front of the presser foot was fabulous! Also opening seams with 6 or more layers of fabric. Worked absolutely great!

Here are my first 2 blocks and my antique irons. I was in Maine at Moosehead Lake last week, so excited to finally get to sew baskets

A little late to start, but had to finish the fall table topper so I could swap out my black thread for cream. Got my first two blocks done. Thinking of using blue for the baskets and whatever hits me for the top.

Looking online for baskets I like the looks of. Drafting them in EQ8 for the practice and this a table runner idea. Having fun.
They are 10 inch squares and I found them on a website called Piecemeal Quilts. They were part of baskets of the month.

I only use a featherweight also and I started using Alex's 80 in the bobbin without trouble--love it. Wonder what the problem is??

This might help someone. I used my circuit to cut squares proportional to the ones I may use in my puzzle quilt. 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 inches. You can also cut by hand of course, but I have to use my toys. I cut different colors of card stock for the different sized blocks. Play around with different arrangements until you get something pleasing. This will give you a starting place for the minimum number of blocks to make. Pictures attached to demonstrate. Notice I have spacer strips as well (yellow)

Alex you recommended thinner thread in your bobbin, I think. I did just that and it kept on balling up flustering me.
I don't have a fancy machine like you do. I sew on a Singer FEATHER WEIGHT. I gave up and went back to my thread
after 30 min.
What did I do wrong ?
Love your show..keep up the wonderful work..we need you !
