Only 27 quilts have been awarded the distinction of Master Quilt by the National Quilt Association, andTribute to Tolkein, made by this episode's featured artist Sue McCarty, is one of the honored few.

Sue shares with Alex how to work with computerized designs on your longarm and gives Ricky nine tips for helping you get started with your longarm business.

In addition, Ricky demonstrates a quick-and-easy sleeve for displaying your quilt.

Here's a great big thank you from the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.    With your help, they will not have to close their doors!

A message from the Museum:

Dear Friends:

Our hearts are overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness the Museum has experienced in the last two weeks from the community and from all of you!

We are incredibly happy and proud to announce that we've exceeded our goal of $80,000! As of today the Museum has raised $125,000!!!! We will not be closing our doors! Three quarters of this amount has been received and one quarter is outstanding pledges that we should receive soon. This amount also includes a significant increase in membership revenue of $7,500 and our membership has grown from 578 to 658!

We will now begin the challenging job of "right-sizing" the budget and dropping it from $700,000 a year to somewhere between $650,000 to $600,000. We need to balance what we spend with what we can raise. Please join us on Sunday, June 2 from 1pm-4pm for a walkthrough and opening reception of  - where we will THANK all our supporters who gave to this special two-week appeal.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events or on June 2 at the Musuem.

 or call 971-0323 x14.

Cheers,

Christine

We Moost be in Yellowstone by Pam Hadfield of Laguna Niguel, CA was the winner for Outstanding Innovative Quilt at Road to California 2013.

She based the design on a trivet she found at the airport!  (A design by Sue Coccia)

Artist Statement:

In 1872 Yellowstone became America's first National Park. It is known for its diverse wildlife and having the most concentrated geothermal activity, i.e. "Old Faithful" geyser which spouts boiling water high into the air at 90 - 184 feet.

This month we'll learn Sue's basic stitched raw-edge applique' technique.  Unlike other raw-edge applique' methods, only the edges of the patches are fused, resulting in a much softer quilt. Quilts done with this method can be used and washed with care.

Sue's instructions will have you stitching curves, inside points, and securing thread ends with confidence.
