This quilt was made by a group of quilters who call themselves The Rambo Quilt Group. The group has been in existance for twenty years and consists of Cynthia Collier, Kris Larkin, Rohi Bush, Alisa Raney, Anne Lockett, Ladonna Messarra, Joyce Springle, Joan Ramsey, Kim Cissell, and Vicki Prebilsky.  The Rambo Album Quilt was exhibited at the Long Beach show in 2013.

Although she's been making art all her life, LA native Sheila Frampton Cooper is relatively new to quilting. That hasn't stopped her from making a splash, as evidenced by the award-winning quilts she shares in today's fun- and info-packed show.

In addition, Sheila demonstrates her clever technique for piecing curves without pins and offers loads of tips and suggestions for machine quilting, including how to tackle multiple thread changes.

Also on hand: machine quilter, author, and popular blogger Angela Walters, who shows how she gives traditional quilting designs a modern twist and determines strategies for quilting the negative spaces in those Modern (and other) Quilts.

Here's a great tutorial from Melly & Me on how to sew together a gap using the Ladder Stitch.  P.S.  She has super cute, stuffed animal and bag patterns.

Studying examples of fine needlework is a surefire way to gather inspiration for patterns, color combinations, and themes for your quilts and other stitching projects.

If you're in the area this fall, you'll want to plan a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for their upcoming exhibit, Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade. The exhibit runs from September 16, 2013 through January 5, 2014, and features textiles from around the world, including stunning examples created and traded for spices and other exotic goods from the sixteenth century onward.

5923_pencil.jpgMany pencil and marker cases are great for the first few weeks of class, but soon show their wear from repeated openings and closings.

Why not make a sturdy fabric case that will stand the test of time . . . and look super cute in the process?

We found this adorable zippered pouch at Craft Passion. We love it, and think you'll find many other ways to use it besides as a holder for pencils, pens, and markers. Better make one (or two!) for yourself as well.

This month you will assemble the appliquéd top border that features the year 2013 as well as two adorable little birds.  Considered complex units, the little birds are built on parchment paper before attaching to the border.

Since Alex is off to one of Rosalie Dace's classes, we thought we'd share one of Rosalie's quilts, Awake my Soul, as the puzzle for this week.  To see more of Rosalie's quilts on her website, click here.

You can also learn more about Rosalie in Episode 711: Quilting: Where Imagination and Reality Meet: Featuring Rosalie Dace, Jennifer Chiaverini and Michael Cummings.

From Rosalie:

Description: This quilt is one of my series based on the sun and the magic and mystery of our universe. Here I used the image of the sun to reflect the somewhat difficult phase my work had been through. I knew I simply had to get warmth and light back in my creative life.

Dimensions: 106cm x 119cm

Materials: Commercial and hand-dyed cotton, silk, sheers.
Machine pieced, machine and hand appliquéd, machine quilted
