Some of you might know that I have been going through an extensive home renovation project for the past couple of months. This has made cooking more than a bit difficult. It just wasn't fun anymore, without a good space to work in, or even running water in the house. As time has gone on, I have sometimes gotten a bit grumpy about not being able to experiment with my healthy recipes in the kitchen. And then I remembered the crock pot! Oh boy, I could cook again! It was funny how just putting together some simple ingredients in a crockpot cheered me right up.

And for the busy quilter, or busy working woman or mother, the crockpot is just perfect. I will be sharing several of my favorite crockpot recipes over the next few weeks. So get those crockpots dusted off and get ready for some really tasty healthy homemade dishes that are just right for this nice fall weather we are having.

First up is my favorite. If you can believe it, I have never eaten or made baked apples my whole entire life! I know, where was I raised? Anyway, I found this recipe through one of my blogger buddies. I adjusted it a bit for my own purposes, and have already made it twice. And, for me the measure of success is when I share it with a "non-dieter" and they proclaim it delicious! These crockpot baked apples are as delicious and satisfying as apple pie!

Crockpot Baked Apples

Ingredients:

3 medium apples (I used Fuji or Honeycrisp)

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 Tbsp splenda granulated

2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1 Tbsp dried cranberries or raisins

2 Tbsp chopped walnuts or pecans

3 tsp butter (or butter substitute of choice)

1/2 cup water

Directions: Cut the core out of the three apples without cutting all the way through the bottom. Place the apples in the crockpot. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, splenda, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, cranberries, and chopped nuts. Carefully spoon the dry mixture into the empty core of each apple. Top each with a teaspoon of butter. Carefully pour the water in the bottom of the crockpot. Put the lid on, and cook on low for 4-5 hours.

Each apple will be approximately 180 calories.

While On the Road near Mica, Texas, we caught up with artist, author, and educator Leslie T. Jenison, who shares her playful, "serendipitous" screen-printing techniques.   She transforms natural-fiber fabrics and paper by adding unusual materials such as plastic Fiesta flags, product packaging, common household items, and hardware store finds. She also describes her experience as co-curator of the juried Dinner at Eight exhibits and companion catalogs with California artist Jamie Fingal.

Episode 1510: Screen Printing Seredipity debuts Monday, November 10, 2014.

Search Shows

Okay, it is time to try the new Search Shows. Go to WATCH>SEARCH SHOWS. You can click on the column titles to sort by SHOW# or ARTIST or TECHNIQUE. But even better, use the search box. REMEMBER LESS IS MORE. Search for Ricky's Flying Geese demo by typing "flyi". Find all the binding tutorials by typing "bind". If you click the Show# in the far left column you will go to the show (but you must be logged in). Give it a try.

We use the common sharing symbols in the upper right of every article/blog. Try to send a blog you like to a friend. Send the Quilting Industry survey to a friend. It's not hard. Then look for the little thumbs up symbol on every blog/article. When you don't have time to comment, you can just click the thumb to show us you liked this post.

Did You Know...

One of the Internet standards is that you can click on the Site Logo in the upper left and go back to the Home page from any page you are on. Go to Watch Shows>ShowList and then click on the Logo. You will be back on the Home page again.  Cool.

Zoom Quilts

Zoom Quilts are easier to find. Go to SEE QUILTS>ZOOM QUILTS to see the latest and all the past Zoom Quilts. Then see how the new site handles them. Move around and test how it works. I like it, but it is different. Also, this means that your pictures you send can be a higher resolution now. That way we see your personal quilts even closer.
