TheQuiltShow.com wanted to know more about the antique quilt booth we passed at Spring Quilt Market. Carolyn & Donald Springer started Quilts from Mulberry Lane because their passion became to much to keep to themselves.
TQS asked "What is the oldest quilt in the booth? Who is your typical customer? How do you estimate the age of the quilt? The answers await you in the video.
See how the prepared dough is rolled out for fillings to be added. As it was midday, you will hear the Muezzin in the background calling all Muslims to prayer.
Ufka, also known to the Greeks as phyllo, and to the Persians as fila, dates back to early Persia. This paper-thin dough made of water, flour and oil is used for a wide range of both sweet and savory dishes in Turkey. Making Ufka is an art and not for the faint of heart; think Strudel dough, and you get the idea. Most Turks buy it fresh at a specialty shop, but you can purchase it in the frozen food section of a Middle Eastern Market. Ufka is a very diverse dough. When the thin layers are brushed with butter and then baked or fried, they become tender and crispy. Fillings range widely from chopped nuts and (i.e. Baklava) to mixtures of cheese and spinach (Ispanak) or meat (Börek).
You can also pan fry packages filled with savory fillings (like a quesadilla) for a quick meal on a weekend night.

Quilt history isn't over. Every time a new quilt is made, another chapter of quilt history is written -- or at least it should be. The nonprofit Quilt Alliance teaches quiltmakers, quilt collectors and quilt lovers everywhere how to record history as it happens.
This summer, the Alliance will conduct its second conference on the oral history of quilts, full of up-to-the-minute techniques and inspiring projects. Not Fade Away: Sharing Quilt Stories in the Digital Age will be held July 17-18 in Herndon, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. The conference, sponsored by eQuilter.com, Sacred Threads and the International Quilt Study Center & Museum, will feature lectures, workshops, networking opportunities and more.

There is going to be an exciting new event happening at The Festival of Quilts from August 6 - 9, 2015 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK. It is the first Game of Quilts.
Click here to go to the Game of Quilts website. Click here for their Facebook page.
Game of Quilts is about completing a quilt from the first cut to the last stitch on the label during the 7 hours that the Festival of Quilts is open each day. BERNINA sewing machines, cutting and ironing equipment are supplied on the stand.
Each day, three teams of four members each, will try to meet this challenge.
The quilts must measure no less than 48" square.
The teams will have complete freedom over their designs, but they will have instructions on how to construct the quilt top. This will be their starting point for a special quilt, which will allow all the skills and talents of the team members to shine.
Any style, technique and material is permitted, as long as it is practical. The quilts will be donated to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity at the end of the Festival.
The fabrics for the quilts to be supplied by the teams and the choice of colors is entirely theirs.
The teams will be working in full view of visitors, who can watch their progress and engage in conversation.
This is not a competition and there is no elimination of teams. All are winners, in that they will have achieved something great in aid of a very special charity.
