These pennant banners are a fun way to decorate for a special occasion (think baby shower, Easter, graduation, Fourth of July, or Halloween). Decorating with them lends a festive air to any space. Susan made them for her daughters’ graduation parties, and then gave them to them to decorate their dorm rooms. You can make them in different sizes, too.

Margaret is no stranger to the winner's circle and has come through again. My Secret Garden (71" x 71") combines Hand Appliqué, Beading, Bias Work, Embellishments, Matchstick Quilting, Machine Piecing, and Piped Edging. Even the rolling border is amazing. We are glad she did not keep this garden a secret.

Capt'n John: I enjoyed Grace Errea's work that I saw while we were taping her show. When we got home, I contacted Grace and bought a quilt for my office that would remind me to stay focused. I loved the determination in the eyes of the Eagles in her quilts. Also, the feathers of the neck always draw my attention. Be sure to check out the different fabrics.  Hopefully it will help with my ADD.  (The quilt is 27" x 30"). Grace's book is excellent and worth it for the pictures alone.

It was fun to find out that the quilt was featured in C&T's Date Keeper-- Quilted Masterpieces.

Title of Quilt: Impudent She-Goat

Quilter's Name: Natasha Lashko

Location: Kamienets-Podilskyi, Rhmelnitskiy, Ukraine

I belong to a Ukraine quilters association. I wanted the opportunity to partner with someone from another country! We are both in love with fabrics! It is pure joy when you can learn new things and share your experience. I'm glad that fate introduced me to Rhonda from the USA, a remarkable person with a creative mind! There is much in common, especially a great love for animals. We shared photos of our work. For creative people living in different parts of the world there are no language barriers, thanks to the Internet .I had an amazing opportunity to experiment, improvise, and apply my knowledge and experience with color, light, and composition. To achieve artistic surface effects, visual and tactile result with the effect of drawing and painting, and mosaic, I applied my own idea of embroidery with textile bekes. This technique comes from my own straw thread embroidery. We decided on 18"x18" with a picture of something (as an animal) symbolizing our country, with other things representing where we live. I love Ukrainian folklore and fairy tales. I chose a character from the popular Ukrainian folk tale "Impudent She-Goat ". I used Ukrainian ornament, beads, a wreath of dandelions and cornflowers with ribbons, with Ukrainian peasant huts – symbolic of Podillia, where I live. We will continue to communicate after this project is over. I am looking forward to meeting Rhonda Denney.

Title of Quilt: Bald Eagle with USA Flag and Cap Rock

Quilter's Name: Rhonda Denney

Location: Colorado, USA

This is my first experience with IMQE and I loved it! I thought it would be fun to get to know someone from another country and share our creative juices! My partner is from the Ukraine (thank goodness for translation engines!) I had a wonderful time getting to know Natalya. We both shared photos of our work. What I learned through our interaction and sharing is that creativity has no language barriers. The creative crafts that are done in the Ukraine may include some different materials (such as straw) but the beauty of handcrafted items speaks a universal language. We quickly discussed and decided on the size and theme of our exchange piece. We wanted to create am 18”x18” mini-quilt with a depiction of something (like an animal) symbolizing our country, along with other things representing where we live. I chose a bald eagle representing the USA, along with our American flag. I also included a geographical feature, Cap Rock, representing where I live in Colorado. I combined fabric, pigments and stitching to create my art quilt. I learn something more every time I make a piece. I loved the experience and feel that I now have a new international friend who shares my love of fabric embellishment and stitching. I also believe we will continue our discussions and sharing despite any potential challenges of language differences after this is over. One of these days I want...
