Last night, Quilt Show Stars (our World Quilt Community Members) came into our booth proclaiming - "It's a New Day!" The first to arrive was DLQuilter from Missisippi. She was wearing her newly made badge and as the first to arrive at our booth was awarded our new Quilt Show Pin. She had found just the right colors for her badge from a piece of Ricky Tims Original Hand-dyed fabric. Her friends thought she was crazy to have done so and she actually brought the fabric to show me. See the holes? Now that's commitment.

By the way, we'll be putting the pins in the Quilt Show Store soon so you can have one, too. Most likely it will be after Spring Market, in Mid May. We'll keep you posted.

Amidst shouts of support and enthusiasm and a plethora of oohs and ahhs, Libby Lehman, MC for the Awards Ceremony for the 23rd Annual Show and Contest, announced the winning quilt. Sharon Shamber, of Payson, AZ, has won the $20,000 Best of Show for the second consecutive year - a first!

Sharon's quilt, Flower of Life is created with hand-dyed fabrics and detailed applique, trapunto, and hand-corded binding. The intricate precision longarm quilting adds shadows, texure, and design elements to this original design.

Also among the big winners of the night are:

Good job! Jen guessed ten of the people represented on my quilt! It was impossible to guess them all because some are personal friends and / or behind the scenes people in the industry. But one thing for sure, they are ALL my friends and are quilters - well for the most part (the quilters part, I mean LOL)!

Hey Gang! I'm en route to Paducah, Kentucky for the annual show and contest that starts with the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night. I'll post some news about the awards immediatly following the event - so plan to check the blog later that evening or early Wednesday morning for all the scoop.

I am basking in the glory of Sisters OR with Jean Wells and her wonderful posse. Together we are team teaching the Spontaneous Quilt Design Retreat at the NEW Five Pine Resort / Spa and Conference Center. Let me tell you - it's a tough job, but someone has to do it! We have challenged the students to step out of the box and guess what??!! THEY ARE! Check out Jean and Valori's fabulous quilt which graces the entrance into the conference center. I am itching to go home and create!!! But isn't that what is it all about?
