"They Came From Outer Space" by bakewell

Have you finished a quilt top but found that it needed a little bit more sparkle?  Why not add a touch of something from the sewing department of your local fabric store?  The trim and edging section is filled with dozens of ways to add unique details to a project.

Sold by the yard or pre-packaged, edgings include many options such as piping, rick rack, lace, and ribbon with beads.  You just may find the perfect piece to set off your quilt.  bakewell found that black rick rack was just the touch she needed for her "They Came From Outer Space" quilt.  So, the next time a quilt has you stumped for ideas take a stroll through the sewing department for inspiration.

This priceless photo is Alex Goodwin - photo by Ruth Goodwin (mom)

No, neither Alex nor Lilo (TQSWizard) have had a baby. Thank goodness! However, ARJJ has added a new person to our family, Marketing Director, Ruth Goodwin. Ruth lives in North Carolina. As time goes on we'll tell you more about her. But first, you need to meet her four year old son, Alex - yes, Alex. Here is what Ruth sent folllowing a conference call:

"So I was on the phone with yall and lo and behold I look out my office window and this is what I saw riding around in my driveway.  So as soon as we hung up, I HAD to run out and take a photo to share. The boy under the outfit is my 4 year old Alex.  The Hunter orange vest is a vest that he HAD to get when we were at Dick's Sporting Goods last night (on sale for 93 cents. Yippee!).  The bike is his new "ride" from Christmas.

You gotta love the outfit, the bike - we'll - everything!

Now get this - Ruth's son Alex is named after her father who is named Alexander Thomas Anderson.  While her dad goes by Thom Anderson her grandfather was Alexander Anderson.

Go figure!

748_superbowl02.jpg

February 3rd is Super Bowl Sunday. Even if you are not a sports fan, Super Bowl Sunday is usually a big deal - well, here in the U.S. anyway. Quilters have found unique ways to celebrate this day. Quilt shops often have sew-a-thons, sales, and other clever events.

While the New England Patriots and New Your Giants are battling it out on the gridiron, what will you be doing? Tell us what your LQS does. And, oh yes, who do you want to win - who do you predict will win? Do our international members have anything similar in your country that you will share with us? If not, just use the Super Bowl as a good excuse to focus on a quilting project like the TQS Block of the Month.

Now, for a little TQS competitive fun, if you can tell me the screen name of the maker of the quilt in the background in the image above, I'll put your name in a drawing for an autographed copy of my new Rhapsody Quilts book. Use the "Submit a Comment" at the head of this blog to enter. The maker's name will be replaced with GOT IT RIGHT in the comments. We'll draw a winner on Monday.

February Block "Crazy Daisies" by Sue Garman

It's time to get a little crazy. This month Sue Garman features fun and colorful daisies that you won't find in any garden, but are sure to perk you up. The finished block measures 16-inches and is the second in our Block of the Month exclusive TQS pattern. Sue's clear and concise directions help you through the entire process. Why not try Suzanne Marshall's technique for making bias stems demonstrated in Episode 203 that posts on Monday, February 4, 2008.

If you have not started this project it's not too late. Simply click on the Block of the Month image to the right and download your free pattern. Blocks are also available for sale in the TQS Shoppe for those who don't wish to be a TQS Star Member. Having trouble deciding on fabrics? The TQS Shoppe has done all the work for you by assembling an entire kit that will be shipped directly to you.

Questions to ponder - Please advise

?

1. How much fabric do I need for a 3 color quilt?

2. Can I sew a quilt without doing all that cutting - it seems to be such a time waster?

3. Send me Donna Posters pattern for peaks because I like that method

4. Where do I buy fabric to make a quilt? I really don't want to cut up my clothes, although I don't care about my husbands shirts that much.

Hello Everyone,

Here's my chance to blog a bit (smile). We have received a few tech support emails regarding the pricing of the Series 1 DVD as it was explained in the January 29, 2008 Volume 2, No. 5 Newsletter. This blog hopefully explains the pricing of the DVD with a bit more detail.

The Retail price of the Series 1 DVD is $49.95.

The discounted price of the Series 1 DVD is $19.95. This discount is available only to members who have purchase Series 1 online. An additional 5% discount from the Quilt Show Shoppe for all Star Members is applied, bringing the total price down to $18.95.

If you have purchased Series 2 or 3, but not Series 1 and want the Series 1 DVD, your price is $24.95 plus the additional 5% discount.

Charter members who pre-purchased the DVD back when we were just starting, no additional amount is due. We will simply ship your copy when the DVDs become available.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Each Super Seminar brings a special memory, never to be repeated again - perhaps it was Saturday morning I will never forget.
