Another fresh new face at the event was Melanie. She heard about the retreat from Marlene and Julie at another conference. Her fabrics and color choices were fantabulous (that is my new word). She jumped right in like a pro and you would have never imagined that this was her first year. I believe this quilt was from a class with Freddy Moran............

Linda from Texas got in at the very last second. Her friend Sheila, (and long time retreat attendee) wanted her to get in EVER so badly. I met Linda in Houston, and told her to email me. Both retreats were full to the brink and then at the last minute a cancellation sadly came in. Linda hopped on a plane and brought along a piece of TX with her for Show and Tell.

Marilyn, from Chico (that is where John and I met), is very precise with her work and often hosts a workshop that essentially gets you out of what ever quilting "mess" you are in. This is her quilt which was started TWO years ago, the theme was star bellies (from my book, Keep Quilting). Any student would be lucky to get her advice.

While Alex has just completed her retreats - I've just completed our five day La Veta Quilt Retreat. Several of the students were curious about a new contraption I had off to the side - my AccuQuilt system. Many of you may know that AccuQuilt has my designs in die form. So once I showed the sample - cutting several complete appliques in - well, like 5 seconds - they were whoo-hooing and trying to figure out how to utilize the shapes on their quilts. As you can see, four of the students found great uses for the designs. The three Kaleidoscopes were started and finished during the retreat. So here ya go everyone - a few photos for your daily inspiration.

Cindy (who is an original retreatie) also brought her Neutral project. It is amazing to see how such a simple pattern can lend such a sophicated look when working in this color pallet.

Here is Mary from PA and her quilt. Last years theme was Neutrals (based on my book Neutral Essentials) and this pattern was from my Simply Stars book. Mary works for a company that includes travel - How perfect that one of her clients is located in the bay area. Amazing how they need to see her every mid Nov - as a wise person once said, timing is everything!
