Alex Anderson visits with Victoria Findlay Wolfe as she adjusts to the life's new rules. Her approach to keeping creative has inspired Alex. Victoria is definitely a muti-tasker with many irons in the fire. Join Alex as she hears the story and visits the studio of Victoria Findlay Wolfe.

We continue our selection of quilts exhibited in 2019 at the Houston International Quilt Festival as part of their 45th Anniversary, the Sapphire Anniversary. The Sapphire Celebration exhibit is described as:

"Quilters have long used the color blue to symbolize trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Sapphire is also the chosen gem to celebrate 45th anniversaries—which International Quilt Festival is doing this year (2019)! These new and antique blue and white quilts will be suspended from the ceiling in a spectacular and unforgettable display."

To be a part of the exhibit, quilts had to fit the following criteria:

  • Entries may be Traditional, Modern or Art.
  • Entries must have been made between 1974 and 2019.
  • The minimum size is 50” x 50”

Please enjoy the fifth quilt from the exhibition by Rita Trumbull.

Title of Quilt: Sodalite Cabins

Quilter's Name: Rita Trumbull

One of the blessings of traveling around the country is being able to meet other stitchers. I remember in early 2019 meeting Ariane Zurcher at a Sue Spargo workshop. It was one of those stitching ah ha moments where you are in the presence of someone you know gets it...where the creative and the technical meet. I was at a different table but could see Ariane in action with piles of fabrics and threads. I admit, I was curious and at the same time already in awe.

After all, she had brought her project from a previous workshop! That workshop included a field trip to the Santa Fe Art Museum, where you were to look for something that would be the inspiration for your art piece.

This was her inspiration...

With this as a starting point, she went on to create an art piece about her family history. It was stunning!

Now I may be bragging a bit here, but I feel like I can read people pretty darn well and I came away from this first meeting with a sense that Ariane would become a special person in the stitching world. And boy was I ever right! With the encouragement of Sue Spargo, she decided that the stitching world needed some left handed support and launched her own YouTube Channel! On The Other Hand. What is wonderful about her channel is that it may be a technical channel on left handed stitching, but it also is an inspiration of ideas for us right handers!!!

I hope you will take the time to check out her channel and subscribe...the more we learn, the more we stitch...the more we stitch, the less anxious we are!

Stay tuned and travel along with us on Quilt Roadies.
