Two years ago after QuiltCon, loads of people rushed out of the convention center and went to get tattoos.  The idea was so popular, this year at QuiltCon, two tattoo artists were on site at the show.  One of them, Stacey Martin, and her brave customer, Judith, talked to TQS about their backgrounds and why they were at QuiltCon.

You can learn more about Stacey at www.goldenagetattoos.com/stacey-martin.

It's not an everyday occurance to see a tattoo vendor at a quilt show, but at QuiltCon, this booth was 'buzzing' all weekend long.  Women of all shapes, sizes and ages were getting ink to show off their passion to the world.  Meet Austin tattoo artist Stacey Martin and her customer, Judith, who flew all the way from the UK just for the show.  A big thanks goes out to Judith, who, by the way, we found out is an artist in her own right.  Check out her quilting blog and fine art photography blog.

Every year there is a product that hits the market that has everyone buzzing.  Currently it is the Frixion Pen.  Before you dive in and purchase one for your heirloom quilt, check out what TQS members are saying in the Forum about this hot new marking tool being used by quilters.

Sometimes all that is needed to take a quilt from "ho-hum" to "holy cow" is a bit of extra pizzazz.  Let these artists show you how to put that bit of extra in your next piece.

Create your own thread tapestry with Sue Patten (Episode 207)

Let Ann Fahl teach directional stitching to enhance your appliqué work (Episode 111)

Cathy Franks shows you how easy it is to make needle lace using your long arm (Episode 503)

QuiltCon 2015 had a Charity Quilt Challenge. Many of the Modern Quilt Guilds worked collaboratively to create quilts using a predetermined color palette and alternate grid work design. The quilts were sewn in their entirety by each guild (from design and piecing through quilting and binding) to produce complete twin-sized quilts. The quilts were displayed in  QuiltCon lecture halls. After QuiltCon they will be donated to a children’s shelter in the guild’s local community.  Here a just a few of the quilts.  What a great way to decorate and donate all at the same time!

This was a special challenge exhibit at QuiltCon 2015 where each quilter had to use the Michael Miller Fabric Challenge materials to make the quilt.  Some quilters were tested by the use of pastels, but as you'll see, they rose to the challenge.
