We want to welcome Jennifer Bosworth of Shabby Fabrics to TQS!   She will be sharing her "Get Creative with Jen" videos every other week beginning July 1st.  However, we are going to kick things off a bit early with her "Patriotic Tassel Garland" video, just in time for 4th of July.

Jennifer Bosworth is a commercial pilot who started off crafting and quilting as a hobby. Her craft and appliqué projects could easily be toted around the globe and pulled out between flights and on layovers.  When the airline industry began laying off pilots after 9/11, Jennifer turned her hobby into a home business. That company has since grown to a successful online business (ShabbyFabrics.com) with a 10,000 square foot warehouse, a staff of 21 dedicated employees and 2 dogs.  She lives and works in the beautiful town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho with her husband, two children, and several pets.  Between running Shabby Fabrics and designing new projects, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family.

When asked how she felt about being a regular contributor to the The Quilt Show e-newsletters, she said, “I feel blessed to be creating and crafting with The Quilt Show family and hope the projects you see here will bring you many hours of fun and relaxation.”

 Welcome Jennifer!

If you have fast internet, you can watch the TQS shows in High Definition. When you watch in HD format, the shows are TV quality. You can put it on "full screen" or on your big screen and get a beautiful picture. We started making HD shows with show 1401, so any show after that is HD.

YOU MUST TURN HD ON! The shows default to regular definition because of all the rural and satellite customers. So to get HD, click on the HD icon in the lower right of the player.

It will turn blue and start projecting in a higher resolution. Give it a try on the current show. You can also let the show "buffer in" for about 10 minutes, and then even slower internet may work.

Beginning June 24, 2015 a new BERNINA instructional video will air every other week through the end of the year.

First up, Let's Free-Motion Zigzag! celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the BSR (BERNINA Stitch Regulator). Kick up free-motion stitching a notch by using a zigzag stitch.

There are many other entertaining and educational lessons. Click on to watch additional BERNINA videos.

Machine quilting with the BSR is no different than any regular free-motion quilting in regard to the types of threads or needles that can be used. As with any free-motion quilting, larger size threads need larger needles and smaller threads are best with smaller size needles. Many quilters prefer sharps or topstitch needles for piecing and quilting. Some quilters love to use cotton threads for quilting and others enjoy polyester threads. These choices are up to the maker and it is always recommended to experiment with a variety of threads until you determine which look/style you like best.

In this video, Nina uses a zig-zag stitch. It really doesn’t matter what size of stitch width — that is a personal preference. Make samples with a wide stitch and make samples with a medium or small width to get the desired effect for your project. There is no one right answer as to what thread, needle, or stitch width to use when using the BSR for free-motion zig-zag stitching. The important thing with the BSR is to set your stitch length, which doesn’t usually matter for free-motion quilting. The BSR regulates the speed of the needle based on the desired stitch length, so making an adjustment to your preferred stitch length is required. To learn more about using the BSR with free-motion zig-zag, visit your local BERNINA dealer today!
