Susan's Quilt, "Blue Plate Special" won the Superior Threads Master Ward for Thread Artistry in Houston. We caught her just as she was heading to the airport, and we asked her to tell us about the quilt.  She was kind enough to do so.

This is the 2nd in Ricky's Arthurian Legend Quilt Series. Meet Sir Lancelot!

Kits are now available!

Ricky designed this quilt in elegant, low-contrast, rich autumn colors.  It was made by Ricky's late father, Richard Tims, and quilted by Dana Lynch.  It is based on a snowball design and only uses two sizes of squares to make the quilt.  It's easy peasy - but still stunning!  It measures 83.5" x 83.5."

The kit includes:

PRE-CUT SQUARES from Ricky's hand-dyed fabrics (11.5 yards total) - includes border and binding fabric.

Two cones of Superior thread for quilting (Fantastico for top, Bottom Line for bobbin).

The pattern (also sold separately).

The kit is a $339 value but is being offered for ONLY $239 - which is 30% off.  The kit value does not include the cutting and packaging time.  Just think of the time you will save by not cutting anything other than the borders and binding for this project.

Ricky will also have video lessons to accompany the project.

YOU can make a difference!
As you know, our annual quilt auction is a major fundraiser for the Alliance. Proceeds support the operation of projects like Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories and Go Tell It at the Quilt Show!, and our ability to partner on projects like The Quilt Index. You can encourage friends, colleagues and family members to bid on these quilts because they know the cause matters to you! In many cases their purchase is a way to double your impact and recognize your efforts to give back to the quilt community by supporting our work.

You might remember a while back that Alex coached Olympic wrestler, Dan Gable, as he created a Quilt of Valor.  Here, Dan, presents his quilt to a deserving veteran, Spc. Dustin Morrison.

Dan awarded the quilt to Dustin in a locker room at Iowa State University, before a wrestling meet Dan was covering for Iowa Public Television. Dustin, a soldier who was injured during a roadside attack in Afghanistan, was a wrestler in high school, and Dan wanted to award his quilt to a wrestler who had served his country.

To learn more about Quilts of Valor, scroll down after the video.

"Quilts of Valor," is a 73-minute documentary starring national quilters Eleanor BurnsAlex Anderson, and Mark Lipinski and hosted by Marianne Fons.

Three novice quilters were matched with three professionals to help them make quilts for the Quilts of Valor program which has awarded 61,458 quilts to veterans since it began in 2003.  The novices were Dan Gable, wrestling legend, Mary Lou Metzger of Lawrence Welk fame, and Heather Stephenson, whose husband is a member of the Iowa National Guard.
