In Sisters Country we are on countdown mode to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show!!!  We are exactly 25 days away from lift off...or rather The Big Quilt Hanging, LOL. Our town swells to over 10,000 people for a one day outdoor quilt show. And, it takes hundreds to make it happen! Tucked in all the nooks and crannies of Central Oregon are the most amazing designers of all things quilts. If you want traditional, artsy or modern there is a designer living here in Central Oregon who will support you in your creations.


One of those special designers is June Jaeger, sister of Jean Wells Keenan. She is a true artist and most of her work is about nature and animals. June relocated to Sisters this year and over the previous several months I saw her house go from a bare lot to a beautiful home. She meticulously planned every corner of her home and you can check out our conversation on the Quilt Roadies You Tube Channel. I took a Best Friends class with her a couple of years ago during the Quilters Affair and it is one of my proudest pieces...a photo of Enzo became a work of art :) If you ever get a chance to take a class with June you won't be disappointed...she was able to take a traditional quilter like me and give me a moment of artistic genius :)

We thought we had covered batting, but found a couple more ideas that were very clever from Chatterbox Quilts and wanted to share them with you.

Straight pins, silk pins, long pins, short pins, safety pins...the list goes on and on. And then there is the whole assortment of sewing needles. How's a quilter going to keep all of these from becoming one big jumbled mess? This week's homework is to collect all of your pins and hand sewing needles (Click here to see how to organize machine needles). While you are digging them out, it might be a good time to take inventory of what pins/needles need replacing or you are running low on. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a project and realizing that you don't have the proper needle.

Diana Jasany was adopted at 14 months old from Russia. To achieve her Girl Scout Gold Award she needed a project. She began Diana’s Golden Needle Facebook page in February, 2015, to share her adoption story and help spread the word about foster care and adoption. Her goal was to make 16 quilts for teens in foster care. When interviewed by Adoption Today, she said "I’m hoping that my quilts will bring them (adopted children) some comfort knowing people are thinking of them and wishing them much success in their lives."

She has more than achieved that goal. With the amazing response of quilters from around the world, her quilt top count recently surpassed 116, 100 over her original goal! Thousands of blocks have been donated, stitched and quilted, all carefully coordinated by Diana.

But she isn't finished yet! If you'd like to lend a hand, here’s a link to her Facebook page. She plans to keep going through March 2017.
