Alex took a machine quilting class from Jenny K. Lyon at Craft Napa. Jenny brought a wonderful quilt, Morning Breeze, demonstrating all kinds of quilting designs. It had everything from feathers to flowers and presented as a beautiful whole cloth quilt. This one will get you motivated to find those quilt sandwiches and start practicing.

Look below the photos to see what Alex had to say about the class.

Here's what Alex had to say about the class:

Imagine spending the whole day sitting in front of a BERNINA special edition 765 Rose Gold machine stitching away to your hearts content. Jenny had a plethora of tricks up her sleeves to help students grow their confidence at free motion quilting. I learned I LOVE bubble quilting and how easy it is to try different motifs with just a little practice. Practice, Practice, Practice! That is the name of the game.

P.S. - Alex bought the 765 Rose Gold and took it home with her...

The cost of shipping quilts to a show is getting to be quite a topic. Janet-Lee Santeusanio is one of the founders of the MQX Festivals. She is also the vendor, sponsor, and quilt show manager. So, when she recently posted how to pack a quilt for a show, we took notice. We also noticed it was packed by award-winning quilter and TQS guest, Lisa Calle.

Star Members can watch Lisa in Show 1703: Quilting the Bones & Beyond.

Sherry Reynold's quilt, Eternal Beauty, won Best of Show at PIQF 2017 and is dedicated to her mother. We think the beauty of the quilt is eternal as well.

Forty years ago in March, Good Housekeeping had a quilt contest. Nearly 10,000 quilters entered and Jinny Beyer came away with the top prize of $2500. Barbara Brackman has a wonderful article discussing the contest and how it undoubtedly contributed to the interest of quiltmaking as an art form.

When she was in Israel, Cheryl was inspired by both ancient and contemporary mosaics. So she developed a technique to replicate stone mosaics in fabric. She found it a challenge that was intriguing and definitely doable. "Queen Bee" is one of those quilts.

Four Doves in a Window

"With Ma's help, Laura packed her trunk.... Laura brought her Dove-in-the-Window quilt that she had pieced as a little girl while Mary pieced a nine-patch. It had been kept carefully all the years since then. Ma laid it, folded, on the sheet, and upon it she placed two large, plump pillows." ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder, These Happy Golden Years Ch. 32 "Haste to the Wedding"

Versions of Laura's quilt Dove-in-the-Window have been debated: some think it is like Bear's Paw as seen on a pillow at Rocky Ridge, others think a more intricate four flying doves in a star pattern.

This past December, Mary Elizabeth Kinch featured twelve quilts of Christmas. One antique quilt in particular that she highlighted really seemed to strike a cord with a lot of her readers. So she decided to have a Quilt Along based on that antique quilt. She studied the quilt for all of its quirky details, shared what she learned from it and provided a “pattern." The Quilt Along is free, you just need to register.

Star Members can watch Mary Elizabeth in Show 1502: Small Pieces, Big Impact.

Mary Elizabeth writes:

I admit that I totally  “geeked out” on studying this quilt and I have had a blast making the quilt using the lessons I have learned. I have shared my progress on Instagram and Facebook and there is a Facebook Group page as well, for participants to share their progress.
