Here are the quilts for the thirteenth team from the over 320 teams that participated in the International Miniature Quilt Exchange (IMQE). 201 teams submitted their quilts to be a part of the Exhibition in Houston 2018 and we are featuring the 24 teams selected for the first IMQE Exhibition.

Title of Quilt: Love moves the World

Location: Kragujevac, Serbia

In my country there is no tradition of making quilts. We are doing other interesting works. So, I like to make a quilt. When there is love then other shortcomings, tools, materials, fabrics, can be overcome. The cooperation with my partner has been very correct. I was trying to figure out as much as I could what she was saying. I was looking forward to every mail from her. I am glad to be participating in this project. My slogan is: Love moves the world.

I was excited to sign up for the IMQE as soon as I read about it. My first partner never responded, and my second partner dropped out, so I was a bit worried, but hopeful I’d get one that would follow through. I was finally lucky to be partnered with Ljilja in Serbia. Ljilja and I have corresponded a number of times. I learned that she has no local quilt store, so when she visits her son in Austria, she shops for fabric there. She also likes to make things for her young granddaughter. We decided to make whatever we wanted. I selected modern looking fabrics I’d been eye-balling at my local quilt store and added 2 fabrics from my stash. I chose Disappearing 4-patch because I wanted to try the pattern. One fabric looks like lined binder paper. I’m not sure if they use that in Serbia, but I’m pretty sure they have paperclips like the ones printed on one of the other fabrics. I counted how many blocks would make it look like a full-size quilt, divided that number into the size I wanted and added in border measurements. That determined the block size I needed to make. I used 100 wt. thread for the quilting, and a 5/8” strip for the teeny binding. I love how it turned out, and I hope that Ljilja will love it too. Also, I made extra blocks so I could have a smaller sample of the quilt I made for her. It’s still an exciting adventure!

Ready to Dance? by Mikyung Jang is inspired by ancient tomb murals and traditional Korean good luck symbols. We are inspired by the beauty of the image, the incredible thread painting, and the design of Mikyung's quilt.

Ready to Dance? was on display as part of the Merit Quilting Stationary exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

Birthstone Blocks by MJ Kinman are stunning... and fun to make! 

We recommend an Add-A-Quarter Ruler to make this project a cinch!

To make the quilt, you cut apart the freezer paper template that is provided with the pattern and iron the pieces to the fabric before cutting around them with an additional quarter-inch seam allowance. The Add-A-Quarter makes this super easy!

Alison at Cluck Cluck Sew has updated her Simple Hearts pattern just in time for Valentine's Day. It contains easy-to-make 6" blocks and finishes at 42" x 44". This would be a great way to use up those scraps and create a great gift for your sweetie.

Too close to Valentine's Day? You could make just one block and put it in a frame or put together four blocks to create a pillow top. The possibilities are endless.

The Best Part of traveling for me...is the quilters along the way. I don't know about you, but I get homesick...not for my house, but for the people in my life which is made up mostly of stitchers. The number one way I take care of myself is to make sure I connect to quilters along the way. Not only do I create an emotional support system wherever I am, but I learn about things I had never heard of in the crafting world.

The Quilters Market in Tucson provides a space for open sew every Tuesday morning. Stitchers around the area gather to do what we do best...share and stitch...or stitch and share. It is also a place for the homesick traveler to meet and be embraced. Virginia, who traveled to Tucson and is here for a short while, shared her knowledge of Locker Hook. I had never heard about it, but anything where you use your scrap stash is a good idea to me!
 

And since I have a dream...of someday making a Hexie Something, which is something made out of Hexies, LOL, I was inspired by Nancy's Hexie Blocks! They are beautiful and my dreams of Hexies may become a reality because my path crossed with Nancy, and what a perfect travel project!



After all, we are called Anna and G On The Road, and finding ways to connect and be inspired is one of the ways that I keep on rolling. Here is one last show 'n tell...I love how this quilter has adapted a Piece O' Cake Design, "Welcome to the North Pole," into her own piece of art!
