TQS sends out a big congratulations to bbquiltmaker, AKA Barbara Black, and Pamela Joy Spencer Dransfeldt of Huntsville, AL. Barbara has some pretty exciting news to share about the quilt Red and White -- By The Numbers.
I just found out for certain today that my Red and White quilt will be the featured quilt for International Quilt Festival Houston 2014. That means it will be on the cover of the catalog, the cover of the show book, the tote bags, the commemorative pins, the international print advertising and a few other very special exhibits in Houston. This is a big deal in the grand scheme of all things "quilt".
This is the 40th anniversary of the International Quilt Festival in Houston and that is the Ruby Jubilee. There is a special exhibit of red and white quilts and when they saw mine they knew instantly it was the perfect symbol for this show.
It's been a really good couple of weeks and I wanted to share the news. When I get down to earth again I'll do a blog post about it.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles is having a fundraising campaign. Here's what they have to say,
May 6th is our spring appeal! A year ago we needed help to keep the doors open now we need your help to keep moving forward! Mark your calendars for May 6. Go to our RAZOO page (see below) and share a little love! If you miss the 6th we will be accepting gifts on our website from the May 7th-June 15th but those won't count for the matches on SVGIVES.
"What I make with my hands, I give of my heART!"
At the SAN JOSE MUSEUM OF QUILTS & TEXTILES we celebrate "works of heART" of textile and quilt artists. Every day you get a chance to see quilts and fiber art made by masters, then use your hands to create in our Community Gallery, at a Meet & Make, or one of our many fiber art classes.
We share our love of the craft with survivors of domestic violence teaching them how to heal and express the creativity deep in their heARTS.
We create a warm and welcoming space where everyone can explore, have fun and witness the stories and artistry of traditional and new fiber art. With your help, we can continue to share and preserve the amazing work of established and emerging artists.
Please support us on this wonderful day of giving! Our goal for this campaign is $75,000. A little goes a long way when you give from your heART!
Together we can ensure that the Museum has the necessary financial resources to present powerful compelling exhibitions and fun, creative participatory experiences for all!

Superior Threads is often asked if you can recycle empty spools or thread cones. Here is their answer:
We love that our customers are thinking about saving waste and possible reuse. If we don’t take care of what we have now, what will the future generations be left with? We are happy to answer, if the recycle center takes “polypropylene” or “PP” plastics, they can be recycled. Some centers don’t recycle polypropylene, so we recommend calling ahead to confirm with them before you send them in.
The shrink wrap packaging is made out of “polyethylene terephthalate” or PET for short. This is what water bottles are made out of and can also be recycled.
