You may never get the chance to own a Paula Nadelstern quilt, but you can own prints of her quilts at very reasonable prices.  Just head on over to One Kings Lane and look at emerging artists.  (You'll have to register, but it's free.)

One of the most established quilt designers in New York, Paula Nadelstern recently expanded her repertoire to create wall art from her "Kaleidoscope" series of quilts. The offering of this series of giclée reproductions on One Kings Lane is the first time they have been available for purchase.

But you'll have to hurry, the sale ends on 3/4 at 11am EST.

Check your Star library or use your gift certificates to watch Paula at work in Episodes 307 - Puzzle Quilts and Episode 508 - Paula at the American Folk Art Museum.

4595_taking_the_leap.jpgThis Wednesday is "leap year" day, February 29th.  What are you doing to celebrate? Are you going to take a leap of faith, like TQS member sheilakg and try something new this year?

Here's what she has to say about her quilt, Taking the LeapMy art quilting guild challenged members to make a small auto-biographical quilt. The wood duckling leaping from her nest into the unknown captured a recurrent theme in my life.

4582_portrait.jpgHave you ever made a portrait quilt?  Who did you pick as your subject?  Did you work from a photo or from memory?  Did you piece it?  Thread embellish?  Paint?

Here's a wonderful quilt called "Grace" from Jennifer Day in Santa Fe, NM.

"I began this quilt with a photograph of an eighty-three year old woman from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico. She has been a potter all of her life as was her mother before her.  I printed the photograph on fabirc than began the process of covering her face and heads completely in thread. I used sixty-six different colors and approximately one and a half miles of thread in this quilt.  The background is free motion quilting."

For more on portrait quilting take a look at how Rob Appell does it in his TQS classroom.

As we all know, Sunbonnet Sue is one of Alex's favorite blocks.  Lately, Sue has been expressing herself in all different ways from a basketball player to a punk rocker.  If you made a Sunbonnet Sue, what would she be? How would she look?  What would she be doing?

If you want to learn more about Sue, watch Episode 805: Feed Sacks, Fun, and Old Friends: Quilts of the 1930s - Featuring: Darra Williamson / Christine Porter.

We all know you have fabulous fabric collections and probably a healthy supply of thread, rotary cutters,4547_perfume.jpgrulers, etc., but do you collect anything else?  Is there another passion that also rules your life (such as perfume bottles)?

While strolling around Road to California, we were struck by these shoes.  When asked about them the owner replied that she created them herself to have both comfort and style, (we're pretty sure her pants are custom too.)  What have you done to add a touch of quilting to your style?

Alex received this message from Dale Riehl a co-owner of The City Quilter in New York City. Quilting truly spans the globe!

We've had more than 5,000 students over our 15 years in business. One of the best things about keeping in touch with former students is to be able to see how they progress. We just received this wonderful picture from a group of wives of United Nations delegates that had been students here 2 years ago.

The group took the class we customized for them with teacher Judy Doenias after Cathy & Judy gave them a talk about the past and present of quilting in the U.S. Ever since then, they have met regularly to make quilts and this is a photo of their latest efforts. As you can see, many of them feature New York-themed fabrics (from our shop--and some are our own, exclusive designs) as a memento of their time spent here in the States. The ladies represent Indonesia, Jordan, Madagascar, Germany, Libya, Trinidad, Malta, USA, Algeria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Myanmar and Brunei.

4521_img_0972.jpgHow do you arrange your quilting stash? Do you go strictly by color? Holidays? Stripes? Batiks? Project? What do you do if something falls into more than one category?

Do you keep it in a cabinet?  In plastic storage bins?  In the oven?

4518_dsc_0144.jpgLooking at the bright and beautiful AccuQuilt booth at Road to California got us to thinking, "Will you be using the AccuQuilt Go! to cut out your shapes for the 2012 BOM or will you be using the templates provided in the pattern?"

It might be fun to get together with a bunch of friends to share dies and have an AccuQuilt Cut Out Your BOM Shapes Day.

Have you finished your January block? February is just around the corner...
