"Fabric from Bangkok----AnnetteS
8 days ago I was in Bangkok on holiday. I purchased a selection of Thai silk, some cotton fabric and batik, plus two wonderful Japanese bag books. The wallet has been made from the fabric, using a pattern from Bags and interior goods book. I wanted to challenge myself to use fabric that I would normally avoid. The big laugh was on me as all my "silk" is man made material. Threads burn into a melted glob. I do not read Japanese, but the books are easy to follow."
AnnetteS is eligible to win our Quilting Goodie bag. She uploaded a picture of her last quilting purchase into Show & Tell. Go to the purple bar and click on "Show & Tell". Then upload a picture of your last quilting purchase by midnight tonight. You could win a bag similar to what our studio audience won last week.

Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with TQS!
A Touch of Ireland | |
Denise Labadie, award-winning quilt maker uses her profound love of the Irish landscape and ancient megalithic stones as a theme that is central to her quilting. To best express the moods and textures inherent in her complex landscapes, Denise uses a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and threads. She demonstrates how she achieves the effect of realistic looking “fabric stones.” Show includes a visit from Cheryl, The Quilt Show’s Gizmo Girl and a piano performance of Danny Boy by Ricky. As our treat show 106 is open to everyone on March 17 & 18 as a Saint Patrick's Day treat. Watch as Denise makes the stones on Ireland come alive on her quilts. |

How would you like to win a Ricky Tims Rhapsody Quilt? Well you could, if you post your quilts in the Quilt Gallery. When we reach 36,000 quilts posted, a TQS member who has posted a quilt will win one of his quilts valued between $10,000 - $15,000. WOW WEE!! Click here for more contest details.
Right now we have 12,213 quilts posted in the TQS Quilt Gallery. 36,000 may sound like a lot of quilts but if you figure that we have 40,000+ TQS members. And if each member just posts 1 quilt today...we would have 52,213 quilts posted tomorrow! You can add up to 12 quilts in your profile, so please add more! We really want someone to win! And it could be you...but only if you post your quilts!

The Helping Hands Challenge goes forward. We have been amazed by the creativity, the sensitivity and the thoughtfulness of the entries. Go to "Challenges" on the purple bar. Then click to enlarge the pictures and read the explanations about the quilt. Wonderful.
Click the play button to go to the blog and start the slideshow. The artistry and the techniques are worth this second view.
The Articles section has a very diverse range of interest.
In 2009, Karen Alexander has agreed to provide articles about our quilting pioneers. She will give us quick looks at some of the people who have been inducted into the Quilter's Hall of Fame. These pioneers are the rocks that provide the foundation of our current quilting boom. Her first article is on Florence Peto. Peto's quilt above was included in the "The 20th Century's 100 Best American Quilts", but her contribution was so much more.
Pam Holland travels the world teaching quilting. Everywhere she goes, she takes her camera and video camcorder. She has agreed to provide TQS with 1 video a month from her travels. There is a special button in the Articles section to feature her videos.
It's great to follow the thoughts and approaches of quilting artists. Helen Gooden took us along as she adapted Ricky's style to a recent quilt. Now Gail Thomas is taking a black and white picture of Alex as a child and making a quilt around it. You can follow her progress in the Articles section.
TQS provides fun projects for our guests. Click on the picture to get a short tutorial by Alex and Ricky.
