Mistaken Identity by Gail Stepanek & Jan Hutchinson won 1st place - Bed Quilts - Traditional, at the inaugural AQS QuiltWeek in Phoenix, AZ 2014.  The interesting choice of a gray background juxtaposed with the pops of color highlights the beautiful quilting.

Here's a beauty from Road to California 2014 - Heralds of Spring by Joann Webb of Grain Valley, MO. Joann writes, "My goal was to put all my favorite spring flowers into a bouquet that would never wilt. Flower sprays were arranged as petals in one large flower head.  Dimensional elements were developed with the "Do whatever it takes" method."  Did we mention that included, hand quilting?

Joyce Paterson presents, Artie Facts, a representative of the dog world, along with some known dog facts. Joyce's quilt was exhibited at IQF Houston 2013.

Joyce writes, "I have long known that dogs have their own set of rules and facts about how the world works.  So, when faced with a Mendocino Quilt Artists challenge to create a quilt based on the theme "Artifact," my mind went to the dog facts.  Artie is a representative of the dog world, and these are some of the known dog facts."

Alex, Ricky, and the TQS gang travel to the Omaha, NE, headquarters of AccuQuilt, where they connect with Linda Pumphrey, global sales manager (and self-described "Global Passionista") for a show loaded with fabulous projects and techniques.

Linda leads off with Fractured Triangles, a fast-and-fun, strip-and-triangle-based quilt made using AccuQuilt's efficient and accurate cutting system. (A downloadable pdf for this project will be available on the TQS website.) Alex joins the fun with a lesson on "squiggles" (Sorry! You'll just need to watch!), and Ricky shows how to create a stunning quilt that combines charm squares with sparkling slivers of color.

Finally, we couldn't leave our location without a tour of AccuQuilt's wonderful facility, hosted by director of marketing, Lynn Gibney.

With all of the crazy weather going on throughout the country, it's nice to take a moment and reflect on the joy that a first snow can bring.  First Snow, by Susan Brubaker Knapp, was part of the "An Exquisite Moment" exhibit at the Long Beach Quilt Festival 2013.

You can learn more about Susan in Episode 901: State-of-the-Art Quilting: Tradition Meets Innovation - It's a true "multimedia experience" as quilt artist, teacher, and pattern designer Susan Brubaker Knapp joins the TQS gang on location at the home of Hugh and Dee Dee Eaton in Monument, CO. Susan shares some of her traditional and art pieces in a wonderful show and tell, and then - after a brief "musical interlude" (accompanied by Ricky) - she gets down to business, demonstrating her method for making consistently sized vines and her techniques for needle-turn appliqué. She also shows how she designs and creates a quilt using an original photo and her computer. (Bonus: the demo pattern will be available on the TQS website for download.) We wrap up with a visit to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, CO, which opened its doors in 1990 as a showcase for Colorado quilts and quilting.
