The discovery that beloved English writer Jane Austen had made a quilt, and a visit to the author's home in Chawton, England, was just the impetus that Karen Gloeggler needed to create a series of quilts and book inspired by Austen's romantic novels. Karen shares how to find and incorporate vintage fabrics, handkerchiefs, and doilies into your quilts to give them a period flair, and shows a clever technique for making a scrappy pieced border, perfect for a Jane-inspired quilt.

You'll also meet author and quilt historian Janet Finley, who has amassed the world's largest collection of 19th- and early-20th-century photos of people with quilts, and the book she created to showcase them.

The Episode 1405 debuts March 3.  Don't miss it!

Jardin du Wiltz was inspired by Anna's stay as an artist in residence in Wiltz, Luxembourg, where she spent three months through a grant from the UNESCO-Aschberg Foundation and interacted with mentally handicapped students.

The quilt was exhibited as part of the SAQA Masters II exhibit at AQS Phoenix 2013.

Theatre (78" x 98) was created by Izabella Baykova of Saint Petersburg, Russia and was on display at AQS Phoenix 2014 as part of the SAQA Masters II exhibition.

"Izabella approaches each quilt as a director approaches a theatrical performance.  She thinks about scenario, color, light, and scenery.  The construction of every quilt is like a game with the unknown."

Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. SAQA defines an art quilt as "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
