Finally! My newest book should be arriving at your local quilt shop right about now. This particualar book was an incredible experience to produce in as much as I am not (or should I say - was not) a solid machine quilter. One hundred and fifty hours later, I am still not a world class machine quilter, but I DO know how to get YOU started - ground level! As an aside, I am especially pleased with the book itself. The designer did a fabulous job and I am more than pleased with the publication. If your local quilt shop doesn't have it, you can order an autogrpahed copy directly from me. Just visit my site wwwalexandersonquilts.com and go to the book section. Happy dancing tonight in livermore! Not only a new book but a new skill under my belt!

Although many of you might pick quilting as your number one passion, I have to admitt guys in kilts rate right up there! Here we are at Asilomar quilting our little hearts out and thruough the window music starts drifting in. Do I hear BAG PIPES!? I rush outside and there he is, piping his heart away as people are entering the chapel to a festive occasion, my guess a wedding. Being a bit scottish, this really brings it all home. Quilting and guys in kilts, now what gets better than that? I am sure you have your pick!

152_574752.jpgPerhaps one of my favorite teaching venues is Empty Spools Seminars It is located between Carmel and Monterey Ca right on the beach, at Asilomar. The conference ground alone is one of lifes guilty pleasures. The Ladies who run this conference are dedicated to the continuing education of quilting. In fact, I have known them over the decades and consider them next to family. As you read this, I am teaching Independant Study. Which in short means bring your work and I can help you through the bumps. Next year, I will be back to teaching Stars. If you have attended this conference before, you know how wonderful it is. If you haven't, put it on your must do list. Maybe I'll see you there!152_223713.jpg

151_291138.jpgThis seems to be the expression that sums up what Ricky and I are doing at our new home, www.thequiltshow. But this morning, as John stood outside shaving (sorry for those of you in snow), he ran inside and said, "where is your camera"? We need a photo of the new day! It made me think, some of us are morning and some of us are nighters. I am definatly a nine hour a night gal who appreciates the morning. So where ever I am, I try to enjoy the sights of the new day. Over the roof line of our neighbors house stands this 300 plus year old oak tree, with it's leaves tucked away for winter. A perfect sight for an early morning shave.

145_829796.jpgAfter 60 years of marraige you might think that Valentines day is passe', but not so. Avvioding the rush, we decided to go out to dinner last night with Mom and Dad. We chose Uncle Yu's near the down town flag pole as our choice of destination. Their neighbor, Nick is the head hauncho and treated us very well, including compolimentary desserts. You might theink the chocolate would have been the best, but it didn't hold a candle to the mango sorbet from Italy. SSOO good! If you are in the area, I highly recommend this resturant, make sure you get the walnut prawns. In addition to 60 years, we are celebrating a 1 year anniversary, Joey and Shelly's engagment. Now we have THREE great kids!

134_481247.jpgAs Ricky is racing all over the south spreading his southern charm, I was faced by a quilt deadline. American Patchwork and Quilting asked if I could make a wallhanging for their magazine next fall. Of course I said yes, of course that was several months ago. As the deadline loomed in to short range, I wondered what the heck I was thinking? Sealed LOL. Anyway, not having a CLUE as to what to make, sheer panic set in. Then my mind said, just take a breath and, "think ALEX think!" Focusing on next winter / Christmas (can you believe it?!) pine trees came to mind. Needless to say, as soon I started digging thru my stash and making blocks, the zone set in! Don't you just love that when it happens? Here is a snap shot of the begining of the darling wall hanging (yes I finished - happy dancing). To see the completed wallhanging, you will have to wait until next fall.

132_185601.jpg Vietnam Quilts is a community project designed to improve living conditions for a select group of ladies. This grass roots project worked, despite a bumpie start. This youtube is a 6 minute must see. Thanks to Marlene Ball for bringing it to our attention.
