Today was the first Groveland CA Outdoor quilt show. Groveland is in the CA foothills on the way to Yosemite. The local guild, The Pineneedlers, hosted this fun event and all went smoothly - though the ladies are TIRED tonight. I hung out at Bunny Rose quilt shop (who is listed in our quilt shop directory www.bunnyrose.com) all day signing books and just generally having a great time. The gals said it this is going to be an every other year event - but I think it needs to be every year. Possibly that thought comes from the idea that two years is SO long away! Great job ladies, Groveland may never be the same!

I just had to share this email with you! Kudos to Angelina and YOU!!!

Dear Alex,
I would like to give you a quick update on the Virginia Tech quilt project. Thanks to you and Ricky including the announcement on your blog and in your newsletter, I was able to collect enough blocks to make 33 quilts in only one month! Because there is still so much interest, and so many people have told me they are still planning to contribute, I have just expanded the project to make another 27 quilts for the injured victims as well. Bob Purcell of Superior Threads sent a wonderful box of quilting threads. I'm hoping a batting manufacturer will provide batting. Quilters around the country have offered to quilt the completed tops. In short, the progress on this project has been just phenomenal, and I expect to be able to complete everything by the end of the summer.
Thank you, once again, so very much for your help. It has been wonderful. I hope you will be able to squeeze in a few minutes from your busy schedule to take a look at the project website - I consider this project to be an incredible testament to the compassion and generosity of the quilting community.
I hope you have an enjoyable summer!
Peace to you and your family,
Angelina Kendra

I have recieved a few emails that prompt this blog. Some folks are concerned about the contest rule which requires 6 quilts. One gal was lamenting over this because she is a new quilter and doesn't have six quilts. To that I say, "WELCOME to the site!!! We want new quilters here!" Feeling her pain, here are a few suggestions you might consider if you find yourself in this situation.

1. The quilts do not have to be made by you. Perhaps you have a few family treasures or even access to some antique quilts. All quilts are welcome. Please just make sure your information is as accurate as possible.

2. How about making some kid snuggle quilts and donate them to a good cause? Wouldn't that be inspiring to see six quilts that were created specifically for the less fortunate - all in the name of fun?

All ideas have motives and ours is to create a deep and rich data base for quilters world wide. It is off to a kicking start, but we have just scratched the surface. That has become evident in the last 24 hours - nice work people!!

Also, as a side note, I can't WAIT to watch as Ricky creates the quilt and brings us along in the process. I spoke to hin this morning and he is having a blast! I can't wait to see his first installment...........Unplugged!

First it was the lamp on the set and then this garage sale find - really, I do have very good taste. I would say my preference is traditional eclectic with a love of antiques and classic colors. So what was I thinking when this little pitcher caught my eye? First, I thought it would be great for Joey and Shelly, as they have a kitchen that was built in the 30's with that turquoise color. But it has grown on me..............don't be suprised if you see a quilt down the road in this color pallet with circles as a design element! Stranger things have happened. Which brings me to the question, where is the most off beat place or item where you have found inspiration?

well - Here are a few hints -

It's all about you!

1. Do you belong to a guild?

2. What is your local / favorite quilt shop?

3. And oh yeah, last but not least, have you posted your complete profile and 6 quilts?

As for the launch? One of our beloved web guys is working his tail off with the details - We will keep you posted!

P.S. We want to know - but your answers are not needed here for the contest.

Both Ricky and I are having the opportunity to be with family and friends this weekend. John's brother is here from Texas and John's mom is up from Los Angeles. Today we plan to take Memaw for a cruise in a tin-boat on a 5 acre lake. One of my favorite summer adventures. Ahoy Matie!

You might think a box of chocolates (dark please) might be a quilters true delight - but forget that! Today I recieved a box of Ricky's new fabric line - 1 yard cuts - with Red Rooster (one of our site sponsors) and YUMMIE! As I type I am sitting with them right next to me, so double yummie.............good job RICKY! Good job Red Rooster!!! I realize this is unfair practice, but this fabric should be available mid summer at your local quilt shop - be sure to ask for it today!

I am sure many of you are familiar with Gina Halladay's web site www.quiltersbuzz.com She does a bang up job on her site. Yesterday (Thursday, May17th) she posted the question who most influenced you to start quilting, a quilters hall of fame (great topic Gina!). As I read through the answers, I was struck by the ground root effort of one quilter teaching another. Sure there were some recognizable names there, but in the end it gets down to each and every one of us. Someone passed you the thimble, and now it is your turn to pass it to someone else. Take a moment and read the posts, they are very inspiring!
