Every year I get away with two of my favorite quilting buddies,Joen Wolfrom and Darra Williamson and we head to the hills to QUILT! What started as a three-day adventure has now morphed into a week. At the summit, we not only sew our brains out, but often make major decisions there. For example, that is where Joen decided to start JWD Publishing (she is the pattern company I use) and was advised to sit tight and keep my eyes open for a better opportunity after the cancellation of SQ - HEY - they are here!!! Gotta go - tell us about you personal quiltie retreats!

SORRY NO PHOTO - GOTTA GO!!!! They're honkin the horn!

Our visit to Costa Rica has sadly come to a close - my new friends Rocio and Maria Teresa remind me that no matter where in the world you might find yourself - kindred spirits are everywhere! The event that these ladies hosted on behalf of their quilt shop, El Costurero (in San Jose) - meaning The Sewing Basket, was a 100% success. Imagine 300 Costa Ricans wanting to learn more about quilting - is that EXCITING OR what?  We have fallen in love with the people of Costa Rica as well as their attitude of life - Pura Vida!   More to follow................

John and I are off on another quiltie adventure. We were invited to visit a "certain" country and FINALLY could work out the details - Although there is one "work" day - there are going to be plenty of play days - Care to Guess Where? HINT: We will have NO cell or internet service.

Last week (May 21) I told you of a promotion I am doing with Bernina USA this summer (be sure to ask your local dealer if they are going to participate) and part of the deal was to sign TONS OF BOOKS for all the participating dealers. I told you it would take about 8 hours (and I was about  right - it took a little longer) and challenged you to guess how many books this entailed. Here I am signing the LAST book of the bunch (photo by Pam Kitty Morning be sure to check out her blog - she is my celebrity stunt sewer) and my hand is still good to go! The guesses ranged from 148 to 156,895(I would still be working on that order!! LOL) - Eight of you hit the nail on the head- 1,500! I drew a name and the lucky winner is Donna Krueger of CA. GREAT JOB everyone..................And again, always check our newsletters and blogs because you never know when a new contest is going to pop up!

I am very excited about an up and coming summer promotion with Bernina USA.  Some store in the US, and customer, are going to win a "party" with me. There is a whole plan that Bernina USA has put together - but in addition to all the activities, each participating store will get a few autographed copies of my Machine Quilting book - to use to their advantage.

So.............the BOOKS were delivered yesterday - Upon completion of the private autograph party in my dining room, it is YOUR turn to guess how many books I have signed over the last 24 hours - hint - it took about 8 hours. One person, anywhere in the world, that comes closest to guessing the number of books I signed will win a copy of the book! (In case of a tie, a winner will be drawn from a hat.)  If I am still capable of it, I will sign your copy too.  I will announce on Monday who nailed the number. Oh yes - and ask your local dealer if they are going to be a part of the festivites.

Enter by sending an email to machinequilting@thequiltshow.com  and put as subject your estimate # of books.

On the first day of market we run from school house to school house and then sales meetings. At school house a company has the opportunity to share with store owners how to best maximize their product. The schoolhouses run about 30 minutes back to back. Imagine if you were the store owner having to make SOO many decisions in a short amount of time. This market I am here with Accuquilt and P&B textiles. After my three school houses I went to the P&B sales meeting to show my new line, Always and Forever (the 4th generation toile) - BUT at this meeting P&B shared this new packing idea of fabric combined with a free pattern - the discussion was, does cute sell? I say YES! What do you think?

AND they proudly posed for our blog - do you remember your prom dress (sorry guys) - I sewed mine, based on a dress I saw from Lady Sings the Blues - what about yours??

It's off to Pittsburgh tomorrow. Last time spring market was in PA - I flew to the wrong city!!! I do know I am going to the correct city this time - LOL. I will be there on behalf of AccuQuilt and P&B Textiles. Here is a sneak peek of my new free pattern (it's just the top here) that will be available from P&B textiles. My new line is called 'Always and Forever'. It will be available in red, blue and black. It will ship mid summer. BTW - If anyone told me ten years ago I would be into butterflies............hhmm. Is there a pattern or fabric style you swore you would never make or use and somehow there it is, smack dab center in the middle of your life?

I just went to Chicago to hang out with my Bernina friends and "family". We shot a video which will be part of a Bernina of America promotion this summer. What might this promotion be you ask? Well.............I can tell you this - just for starters, some store and person is going to win a play date with me - Stay tuned for more details and be sure to ask your local Bernina dealer if they are going to join in the fun.

You know what I mean when a pattern has stood the test of time? Blocks like log cabin, sawtooth star and yes even Sunbonet Sue might come to mind. But check this out - About twenty years ago I designed this pattern for my late friend Margaret Peter's book, Christmas Traditions from the Heart. Then When my friend Joen Wolfrom (TQS show 103) started her publishing company JWD Publishing, we decided to have this quilt made again (thank you Elizabeth Scott) for my first of many patterns with her (to order go here). Yet ONCE again we have made it using Whisperings by P&B Textiles. I thought you might want to see the finished result on my design wall..
