Every wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a fabric company? Recently Alex hopped into her car and went on a fieldtrip to P&B. For the next 12 days I will be sharing short video clips that explains what goes into designing fabric - all the way to getting it on your local Quilt Shop's shelves. I am sure after viewing these videos you will wonder how they manage to keep the prices down - that's right. Just wait and see!

To watch the complete video series (Part 1 - Part 12), go to the Daily Blog and look for P&B Part 2 dated August 1, and so on.  A new videos air every day between July 31 and August 11th.

Yesterday morning things kind of got out of control in my sewing room - I had three "blogging queens" show up on my door step with quilts in tow. I thought it was VERY serendipitous that one of the quilts was a Ruby McKim inspired quilt - how cool that an article was in yesterdays TQS Newsletter about Ruby! If you have not yet read it, take a moment to learn a bit about one of our quilting history greats - As for the blogging queens - I would have been totally remiss to not get out my video camera...................more to come! Guess who?

This is the summer of new books for me! Hot off the press is the THIRD edition of Start Quilting....This edition has 8 quick and easy projects (many with instructions for 4 sizes) and is perfect for the first time quilter. A big shout out to Pam Vieira-McGinnis of Pam Kitty Morning Blog, my celebrity stunt sewer - this book would not been possible without her skill and talent! Also, the third book of Liz and my Super Simple Series is ready to ship. These books run $9.95 and are also perfect for fast and easy projects especially for using the delicious large scale prints we enjoy. To order these (and my other publications) go here. I am thrilled to autograph them - also stay tuned - soon my Machine and Hand Applique book will be available. Happy dancing in Livermore, Ca today!

Because quilters have a passion for gardening and because Alden Lane loves quilters, we decided that this Nursery MUST be a destination stop if you are in the East Bay of CA. As you stroll through their beautiful gardens make sure you stop into the gift shops - because my quilts will be integrated into their product displays! As seasons change and displays change so will my quilts! Here is an example of what I am talking about - This particular quilt is from my newest book Hand and Machine Applique - due out next month.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit Fancy Dry Goods in Columbia State Park. I wanted to talk to Lindy (the owner) about the park being on  the chopping block due to California's financial crises. Time will tell if it happens. While I was there, a customer was asking about specific neutrals and Lindy whipped out her P&B textiles book so we could browse. Along with her great quilt shop, this little state park is a fantastic historic village that captures the essence of the gold mining era in CA. If you have not yet watched our Road Trip, episode 212and 213, we drop in on Lindy where she gives a taste of the 1800's in Gold Country, CA - If history is your thing or you LOVE documentaries, this is a MUST see episode.

I was looking at Melinda's  (show 501 airs tomorrow) pictures in the gallery(we love photo man - Gregory Case) and I stumbled upon this snapshot of two of my favorite people - Anyone care to guess what the heck was going on? Being I am not in the shot makes me suspect...................not sure of what - LOL - We provide the snap you provide the story.

Also, if you are not set up for series 5 - do not delay, these shows ROCK! To re-up go here.

Actually I finished this quilt before we left the summit - I just now have loaded the image on my computer. This quilt celebrates Kaffe's fabrics and the use of the sampler pattern from my foundation paper piecing book. Let me say this, when I originally wrote that book it was under much protest - but guess what......I had a BLAST making this quilt. I guess I may have "crossed to the other side" - do any of you relate to this sort of transformation with a quilting process?

Up for air! I am having a BLAST working with Kaffee fabrics (a redo of my paper piecing sampler), Darra is delighting in  her 1875 prints and Joen - well, let's just not talk about that - one thing you can bank on is that Joen Wolfrom NEVER swears - not matter what the situation! As soon as I have my top together - I will load a picture - also Darra is willing to share - stay posted. PS: Hygiene optional - although Joen took a shower to cool off! LOL.

Alex travelled to Costa Rica to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the store "El Costurero".  It turns out that "Simply Quilts" was a popular show in Costa Rica and over 300 people turned out for her 1 day lecture and lessons.  A sample of her quilts are also on display at the Centro Cultural through June 20, 2009.  Join us for a quick tour.
