I recently received an email asking if a person can display a quilt in a quilt show which is from another person's pattern or book. Copyright issues are certainly a hot topic in our community and I always answer, "that is why there are copyright lawyers" - BUT, that said, I called a friend in the publishing world and asked for a general guide line and here is the response.

"My rule of thumb is that the quilt on display should always have attribution for both the book and the quilt designer/author.  It is fine for a quilt to be entered just to be shown for the quality of fabric selection and workmanship.  For a quilter to enter a contest to try and win money for a design that is original and belongs to someone else would require the permission of the original designer or should not be entered.

That being said we must remember that all the quilt blocks in public domain don't count.  And as media people we need to walk a fine line between motivating the quilter to want to show his/her work and making them afraid to show anything for fear of being accused of copyright infringement."

I am so excited that Accuquilt Go has a die for my beloved postage stamp basket. However, it has come to my attention that the handle of the basket has thrown a little attitude for some when constructing the block. For that reason, I searched into our TQS show archives and pulled out this segment to help those in that situation tackle that crazy little handle. Please note that the instruction for handle placement starts at 3:40. This video will permanently reside in my TQS classroom - so please pass the word! PS: Actually it finisheds at 4 1/2" and it is from episode 210.

If you have ever had a chance to visit N.Y. City perhaps you had the opportunity to swing by the The City Quilter. It just so happens that when John and I were there we were staying across the street at the hotel - how kismet was that? Not only do they have a fabulous fabric selection that gets your creative juices going, but they had a pretty cool selection of N.Y. City fabrics. NOW, they have taken the bull by the horns and are creating their own line. imagine my delight when I opened the package and there it was....check out this cool fabric and if you are in N.Y. check out their cool store!

Apparently word on the Cape has gotten around about my quest for LOBSTER!!!!  So much that Seminar attendee Sue Campbell brought her personal creation to share with me - and the good news? Her designs are available at Tumble Weed Quilt shop in Barnstable, MA. All I can say is YUMMMMMM on so many levels.

As I post this blog, the Super Seminar is getting under way in Hyannis Cape Cod - Oh sure, we have heard about the unwelcome guest -Hurricane Earl - knocking at the door. But "so what?!" we all proclaimed - "We are quilters - and you can't keep a good quilter down!" The WOO - HOO Nation of Cape Cod  is underway - ready to laugh, learn and enjoy the good life of quilting!

and need your input. Laughing When asked what I miss most about Simply Quilts - I answer, "the drive bys" - meaning people who stumbled onto the show and got bitten by the bug. That was my true love about those ten years.  I am personally in love with everything quiltie and want to continue to "spread the gospel to anyone who will listen". Then I started thinking about all the young quilters out there that might need some basic piecing instruction....(my brain storm is starting to take form) - then I thought - "HEY - WHY NOT ME??"

So here is where the plan is at. I take the pieced BOM of Sue Garman as the basic platform and teach piecing instruction which coordinates with the quilt (as you know I do love stars and have taught them forever)  - NOW (here is where you come into the picture), not only do I invite you to take this journey with me - but do you know anyone who benefit from this project? This would be free to the world and would appreciate your help in getting the word out.

We will let you know when they start to post, as it will tke a little time to get everything in gear. I have a few days free and thought this might just be the perfect thing to do.....Also, do you have any questions you want covered?
