I just recieved this email from a gal facing a whole new quilting lifestyle - I gave her my answers - what do you all say?

Hi Alex,

Two questions for you if I may.  I'm a military spouse who will soon be moving with my husband to Botswana, Africa.  Talk about your quilting adventures!

First question, I'd like to take my sewing machine with me on the plane rather than ship it ahead as there will be significant delay without our household goods.  What is the best way to travel on a plane with a sewing machine?

Second, much of my fabric will stay in storage stateside.  What is the best way to store fabric?  As this is long term storage there is the slight chance the boxes may get little insect visitors and/or get damp.  Quite a challenge huh?

Thanks and all the best!!!
Kristin

That's right! We are planning to publish the first TQS quilt calendar. The images in the calendar are to be "styled" photos of your quilts. Most importantly, it is a photo contest, not a quilt contest. So the beauty and quality of the photography is what will be judged. Of couse, the quilts do have to be beautiful and the photo needs to have that wow factor.

The submissions have been coming in, but we are finding that many of the entries are not "styled" - but rather "flat shots" of the quilts. A styled photo is a photo of the quilt in an enviornment. Imagine a beautiful lemon and white applique quilt on a white rocking chair in a garden of daffodils - perhaps with a tray of lemonade sitting nearby.

Here's some do's and don'ts.

1. Don't send a photo with a time stamp on it.

2. Don't send any flat shots - they will not be considered.

3. Imagine a month that would work for your "styled photo"

4. Harsh lighting and flashes may not enhance your efforts.

5. High quality digital images are a must.

6. Series #1 Star Members should watch show #112 to see us create a style shot in the show.

For complete guidelines for submitting a photo for consideration - click here.

You know my feelings about Johnny (sigh), so when Adair said she was going to go and see his latest flick, I jumped on board (mind you I only go to one movie a year). Surely a musical would be a great way to celebrate the holiday season. Oh my- Not for the faint hearted or those with any level of decorum. Although there was one great line - my face was in my hands for many of the scenes (Adair said the effects were "fake looking" especially the way the blood squirted-eewww- who CARES?!)- Perhaps I should have done my homework. Yell My bad! LOL

Look what we found while searching the web!  Some of you may already know of this or have even used it, but for those who haven't, we thought we'd post this information for you from the HP website:

With the HP Custom Quilt Label kit, quilters can design and print their own custom fabric story labels, made-by labels and matching gift cards. The story labels allow quilters to tell the story behind the quilt with their own words and images, while the made-by labels provide quilters with a custom means of signing their work. For gift giving, a matching card can be created to match the quilt or the occasion.

This easy-to-use software provides step-by-step instructions, tips and suggestions to help users quickly design quilts using a number of templates and themes. Quilters can choose from an extensive variety of quality artwork, color schemes and templates or they can create their own designs using personal text, photos and graphics to make their labels look as artistic and unique as their quilts. The software is both PC and Mac compatible.

The HP Custom Quilt Label kit is available now at hpshopping.com for an estimated U.S. retail price of $24.99.(1) More information on the kit and where to buy it is available at http://www.hp.com/go/quilting.

The short Bernina videos have been VERY popular on TQS. They reside in the Bernina banner on the left - just click on "Bernina Educational Videos" and you'll see the list. Nina McVeigh is a national Bernina educator. She has done a great job of coming up with a variety of interesting tips and tidbits about using your sewing machine. Her latest installment is Machine Needle Punch. Did you know you can create wonderful fabric creations without using thread? Take a look. Have any of you created works with needle punch? If so, let us know and send us to your profile page so see.
